like, this isn’t even an “AI could create that much value” versus “no it can’t” argument - let’s grant the premise, let’s say it does in that world, with these people in charge, unemployment and poverty explode and no safety net is built to handle it

What is happening is not that AI-generated cultural goods are replacing human-made cultural goods; what is happening is that capital is flowing out of the production of cultural goods *entirely,* making us all poorer for it.

Raskin made a holy shit observation on MS Now this afternoon: Since taking office, Trump has made a million dollars per hour for himself. Every hour, he has made more than twice the president’s annual salary.

My husband had PBS News Hour on in the background and David Brooks was yammering in about "faculty lounge" politics driving the Democratic Party. What is he talking about? We don't even have a faculty lounge.

John Roberts' Constitution forbids any attempt to proactively ameliorate racial discrimination and racial inequality, but permits open racial discrimination as long as there is a facially neutral explanation available, even if it isn't remotely plausible. This, my friends, is "Colorblindness."

This is all hilarious. In the last year or so when I am within 50 miles or so of my house and it starts to rain I catch myself saying "I really hope we are getting this rain at home so I don't have to water the plants."

The reason the humanities are so profoundly threatening to the right-wing project of producing compliant workers for the AI economy is that, as empirical, research disciplines, they call into question whether the Silicon Valley view of the world is actually good for anyone who isn't inve$ted in AI.

The thing about the left needing a positive vision for masculinity to counter the right is … they don’t have one either. Their whole thing is “don’t be a woman” as arbitrarily defined by whatever they consider feminine. Apparently some people find this admirable and wish to imitate it

The problem—which both the GOP and the milquetoast institutionalists seem to not be grappling with here—is that the more you close off avenues of political change through the democratic process, the more you push people to see extra-institutional mechanisms as their only option
