Equatorial Guinea is a dictatorship run by the same man since 1978, with his children running large portions of the state now. We paid this dictatorship millions of dollars to let us deport random people there. Our money was used for this inhumanity.

I mean this with all kindness- if you are not actually in danger, stewing over fear is not going to lead to you having a safer, freer or more beautiful life. It is going to make you a mark for conmen. If you do have multigenerational trauma, like so many of us do, the answer is trying to treat it

Anti Jewish violence is real and horrific. Being a victim of this violence is not the quotidian experience of most Jewish people right now. Encouraging Jewish people to live in terror when they are not actually in danger is deeply manipulative and is used to manufacture consent for genocide

The Centrist Mantra: Voters might not like me, but they should imagine there are far away people who do like me, and vote like those imagined people.
Mr. Moulton urged Massachusetts Democrats to think beyond their state lines. He said the state should elect a senator who could appeal to the rest of the country to help the party build a governing majority in Washington.

I think the punditariat's audience, which is older people, just cannot even remotely fathom that white nationalists run the country—that they do not believe it when they are told, nor recognize it when they see it. The pundits fall back on threats from the left, which are legible to their audience.

You can try telling older people that young neo-Nazis run the Republican Party. You can tell them 'this guy Stephen Miller tells Trump what to do.' But for one, they don't think Donald Trump gets told by others what to do, and, no one who is a neo-Nazi could become White House deputy chief of staff.

By contrast, when older people hear about "left-wing radicalism," they know what that is, or at least what the speaker intends by it. Images come to their minds. It means something to them. What comes to mind for most Americans when they hear "right-wing radicalism"? I would expect that it's nothing

When I say that right-wing radicalism is not 'legible' to older people, I mean they do not quite have a concept of what they are looking at, even on the occasions it is plainly shown to them. Maybe a bit of the problem is labeling—that many don't know what "right-wing radicalism" is supposed to mean

but HP probably the most ironclad schedule in the biz, years and years in advance, like later-seasons Thrones, bc production complexity/massive budget/tentpole status. Doesn’t align that he would step away 2 weeks after announcing.

This isn’t to say that “schedule conflicts” are always an alibi for something else - Hollywood is a chaotic waiting game for projects to get Greenlit/funded, and very real conflicts do happen when something suddenly goes into production after years of waiting!

knowing what I know about showbiz, it doesn’t make sense for stepping away just weeks after being announced to be bc schedule conflict. its not like HP is in development hell. I think he is stepping away for the right reasons but doesn’t want a press cycle around it

Oscar Hammerstein had a terrific 1943, with Oklahoma! opening in March and Carmen Jones opening in December. Finding himself the toast of Broadway again after a long string of failures, he took out a self-deprecating ad in the January 5, 1944 issue of Variety listing his flops. An absolute legend.
