One of the main reasons fraternities still exist is that membership signals to potential employers that you’re capable of keeping institutional secrets, even when it means covering up illegal behavior.

This year, Austin basically had 10 straight weeks of ~100°F highs every day and ~zero rain. I guess you could maybe argue it cooled very slightly last week. But this week is the first week of something else. 🙌
Austin forecast highs: Monday 95°F, Tuesday 91°F, Wednesday 93°F, Thursday 83°F, Friday 80°F, Saturday 78°F

There is something so vulgar about the kind of conservative who came from a modest background, but strives to climb the same social hierarchies that once disadvantaged him by endlessly and shamelessly flattering those he now insists are our social betters.

Ramos’ attorney, Skip Davis, provided the Chronicle with copies of the probable-cause affidavit authorizing his client’s arrest, which refers to the Sunday protest as a riot. “Recorded and observed on Open Source Social Media Videos, Ramos is seen dragging a traffic control device and sandbags to obstruct the street without the authority to do so,” the affidavit states, stating that such an offense violates state law.

Screenshot of a Getty photograph captioned: "U.S. military personnel unroll the red carpet at the bottom of the stairs of an Air China plane carrying Chinese President Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on September 23, 2026. (Kent Nishimura / AFP via Getty Images)" Above it, also in the screenshot, is a paragraph of text from a Bulwark article that included that picture. The text reads: "That was certainly the sense conveyed by the ceremony as a whole. There was the televised spectacle of American service members on their hands and knees, smoothing wrinkles and picking specks of dirt off the 100-foot long red carpet that had been unrolled for Xi, as Chinese officials looked on approvingly from the door of their airplane before their leader descended the stairs."

Conservatives I think do generally imagine that written law is simple, straightforward, uncontradictory, neutral and fair, plus that deviations from the spirit of that written law by law enforcement are rare and random, all of which is of course absurd, but also this man is a Supreme Court justice

The Kavanaugh Stops were a particularly egregious example of SCOTUS members just making up facts to fit their desired policy outcomes, that they then get to enshrine in law. But they've been doing it FOREVER. And the legal community hasn't just shrugged it off. It FINDS IT FUNNY.

One of the basic points in Mills' The Racial Contract (originally published in 1997!) was that, if nothing else, White Supremacy deserves to be taken seriously as one of the great motivating ideologies of modernity and it's bizarre that political philosophers are so disinclined to treat it as such.
