Just thinking about these two stories next to each other: 1. In Darndale Park, a football club and a parkrun have been displaced by horses, and some locals have been asking for stables. Nothing yet. 2. In D2, the council is spending €7.5m on a new tearoom in Merrion Square, an area short of cafes?
dublininquirer.com
What to do with the horses of Darndale?
Grazing in public parks means other uses are being pushed out, and adding momentum to calls for an equine centre and stable club to properly support horse culture in the area.

Is it time to post that paragraph from The Road To Wigan Pier? The one about how the desperate, pleasureless poor will always refuse to just spend their pennies on cabbage no matter how much you try and insist. This isn’t a thing you can make people do. It’s not how humans work.

Apparently I wrote a comic about AI about fourteen years ago. Pretty accurate.
A comic about AI from 2012. The post beneath it read: "I have gazed out into the quantum threads of our mutual future and seen what it will bring: Artificially intelligent dating advisors. It’s an inevitability. Maybe they live on your phone! Maybe they live in a corpse. The future’s so bright!"

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

You sometimes see Government TDs pointing out that Ireland isn’t unique in the world in having a housing crisis. But this graph in today’s Financial Times shows just how extreme ours is compared to the places elsewhere, which also describe themselves as a in a housing crisis.
The share of young adults living with their parents is climbing in many countries and cities, with Ireland leading the way % of people aged 25-34 who live with their parents. National averages vs major regions

[5 line graphs. Ireland’s is sharply above 40% since 2010. The rest show US, U.K., Canada and Australia. The next highest result is the US at just over 20%]

Regarding the growing call to *ban* e-scooters, the data speaks for itself...
Current official road safety statistics for Ireland (2026) (updated yesterday) which clearly demonstrates motor vehicles are the overwhelming source of danger on Irish roads. It is awful that children have been injured but we have unenforced laws to handle that. As such, these calls should be understood as similar to a moral panic
