I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

for millennia you would spend your life dreaming of an audience with the pope and today, through the miracle of technology, Jesus Returns Movie can talk to him with the press of a button and he uses it to say “has his excellency considered the Minions”
What about the Minions? Hundreds of humans working together to bring Entertainment to life... Does the Church Approve of that? Or is that a NO-GO?
Cartoons, Stop-Motion Animation, CGi... they're ALL in the same category. (Now, add Ai Films to it.) They're NOT traditional movies, they are something else... simply PURE entertainment. The Church now DECIDES what
TOOL Creative HUMANS are using?

and there’s a gif of two minions hula dancing in grass skirts that fall down and show their undies.

I attended a presentation at a university where they estimated that 3% of undergrads over the course of their degree had experienced any kind of sexual harassment up to assault. Maybe that stat holds but it sounded to my ears like a harmful form of wishful thinking.

It's always been interesting to me that popular culture (appropriately) adores this movie and yet largely doesn't notice that it is a very faithful elaboration of the Christian nativity narrative through the lens of Isaiah 9:2.

The Hard Right's deepest resentment may be directed at the unyielding Christian commitment that all human beings share an intrinsic dignity that binds us into a single family irrespective of nationality, language, class, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or any other manmade device on offer.

The only correct take on the astroturfed Magicians Nephew-Greta Gerwig-Aslan-played-by-Meryl Streep culture war kerfuffle is that people who still deny that Narnia isn't great kids' literature or - even madder - that CS Lewis wasn't a great writer, are the ones we should really pity

This extraordinarily articulate woman is clearly being marginalised by the people she thought were her friends and neighbours because she refuses to to give into the fear-mongering of racists. The UK is in a very precarious place culturally and politically. The journalist doesn't realise this.
