We are now, without a doubt, the greatest kleptocracy the world has ever known. By virtue of Donald Trump and the Republican Party promising to hate and abuse those people a nation of angry rubes wants to hate and abuse, they have lifted the national wallet and handed it back to the rubes, empty.

The first time a man in the US was charged with rape of his cohabitating wife was in 1978. The *first time* that charge had been brought. His lawyer argued “maybe this is the risk of being married, you know?” Anyone want to guess the verdict?

One of Musks breeding allies has apparently called it quits. I know I keep harping on this but imagine the media coverage if the top donor to the Democrats was a billionaire with a baby breeding cult? And yet the media has mostly ignored this part of Musk’s story.

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
The chief justice used to preside over a Supreme Court whose members were afforded more privacy and freedom than many other public officials. Once, years ago, Mr. Lipson and the chief justice found themselves up the peninsula from Port Clyde without a car, Mr. Lipson recalled in an interview. So he stuck out his thumb by the side of the road and a pickup truck pulled over. He and the nation’s top jurist hopped in the back and hitchhiked back to town.

Now, Mr. Lipson said, he is cautious about introducing his friend to strangers. This year, on an outing to nearby Monhegan Island, people recognized the chief justice as he walked by a brewery and started to chant: You should be ashamed.

Yeah so if a president liquidates a government entity created in legislaiton passed by Congress & funded by congressional appropriations that's super-duper unconstitutional. In normal times he'd be impeached by close of business that day.

Simple solution: just don't do it. The US desire to find 'clean' ways of killing people is ultimately to try and absolve themselves of what they're doing: killing people. There is no clean and morally pure way of taking a life - and particularly not of someone whose entirely within your power

This is monstrous. Lethal injections are neither painless nor humane; the paralytics just make it look that way. The government should not be allowed to execute people in this way, if at all. The Supreme Court Justices who ignored new evidence to push through this order are complicit in torture.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

This is very interesting. Two thoughts: 1. This will be challenged. I wouldn't be surprised if challenges succeed. 2. You should be able to make officials who violate your constitutional rights pay for it, and if nothing else, this bill highlights how difficult it is-particularly w/r/t the feds.

To quote a @chrislhayes.bsky.social jape at the Roberts Court: "They go fast when they want to go fast and slow when they want to go to slow and the decision is *always* an ideological one."
Steve Vladeck, a professor a Georgetown Law, writes up breaking developments from the Supreme Court. The last post in the three-post thread is the kicker, for our purpose here.

"#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

John Roberts has spent his entire career trying to kill the Voting Rights Act. Now his Republican-appointed majority is dusting off arguments once used to destroy Reconstruction to roll back the gains made during the civil rights era. Our latest cover story: tinyurl.com/3m6nawpj
Mother Jones magazine cover linking the Roberts Supreme Court to a revival of Jim Crow: a black judicial robe hangs next to a white KKK hooded robe with a hand reaching toward it; headline "The Southern Strategy" and subhead "Jim Crow was dead and buried. Then came the Roberts court."

Let me give you the actual solution to this problem. Universities and colleges have to hire football players as union employees (AFL-CIO, same as the NFL), with no requirement to attend school. They get health and retirement benefits, and are limited to a five year employment contract.
