dang, new cat all pissed. this is not the face of an animal who is pleased to have been discovered.
Close-up of a small wild cat with brown striped fur, large rounded ears, amber eyes, and a dark nose, staring directly at the camera with an intense, slightly irritated expression.

Epic use of Awareness Cones in the Arboretum tonight

Yesterday, a woman wearing scrubs was hit while biking eastbound on the South Street Bridge. This is the most biked bridge in all of PA. On any given day, an order of magnitude more people walk, bike, or take the bus across this bridge than drive personal vehicles.

The central drama of the modern world is innovation against suffering, and we have made incredible progress so far. But we are doing far worse than we could. Millions still suffer from untreatable diseases, because of bottlenecks that we could fix. You can help fix them.

BIG NEW piece by me. A few years ago, if you asked me to summarize my entire worldview in one article, I would’ve said it was too broad and too difficult. But this year, I decided to do it.

It's funny (and slightly unsettling) to me that a lot of the international coverage of the first participant in the BDBV vaccine trial shows HCWs in full PPE, most likely from previous Ebola vaccination campaigns in Africa. First dose went to a healthy volunteer in Oxford 🙃

Bikes (Bromptons) Do So Much.
Front view of a Brompton bike. On the front block is a large navy blue rolltop bag filled so full it doesn't roll closed. On the back rack there is a large hiking backpack, also stuffed full. The shoulder straps of the backpack are looped over a short dowel attached to the back of the saddle.

Since some have asked 'Where does the logo for the Clinical Trials Abundance blog come from?' The answer is sadly not very deep or sophisticated. It comes from the 'moar' meme (knowyourmeme.com/memes/moar) and started as a placeholder logo before we came up with a better one (which we didn't).

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.
