I know this preprint is basically rage bait, that's why I'm not linking it. But how cynical is it to say there is a death deficit after the pandemic that has been "paid off" by vulnerable people during the pandemic and excess deaths therefore are overestimated.

This is a really interesting study -- ~1/3 of MPXV tests estimated to be false positive in DRC outbreak. MPXV is a DNA virus and it's very easy to pick up environmental DNA during PCR. Do we need to adjust testing protocols?

When asked about science publishing, most people only think about how they want to share their science. And their answer is typically "fast" But when you ask them, instead, about how they want to consume it, and what standards should be implemented, suddenly many don't feel the same way 😅
