Did you know 8 of the top 10 recycling councils in England are Lib Dem led? Mid Suffolk, a Green majority council, ranks 162nd, and Brighton was among the worst in the country when they ran it. @ollygrender.bsky.social put the figures to the government in the Lords in April.

Two tier policing. Victoria Thomas Bowen, who chucked a milkshake at Farage, was given a 13-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months; had to pay him £150 compensation; had to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £450 in court costs. It was nowhere near the level of violence of this assault.

Defying a court order does not merely test the judge. It tests whether everyone else still agrees that judges issue orders. A judiciary requires no army so long as obedience to judgments remains ordinary. The dangerous moment is when obedience itself becomes contested.

This whole piece is absolutely wild. Of course we know renters are treated appallingly at the bottom end of the scale, but look how even these people paying £4300 a month (!!) for a one-bed flat (!!!) can’t get their landlords to behave decently
Some buildings have loosened their rules in the wake of the Renters' Rights Act, such as no longer charging fees to have pets, said Karen Standing, who oversees the build-to-rent segment at estate agency Hamptons.
Shard Place does not allow pets, except for guide dogs. Under the Renters' Rights Act, the Labour government's flagship effort to help renters, landlords cannot have a blanket ban on pets.Instead, almost immediately, tenants encountered snags. Rubbish could only be placed in the building's chutes before 5pm, when tenants were often at work. The pool had to be booked and was often unavailable.
Food-delivery drivers were barred from entering the building or leaving items with the concierge. Guests had to be fetched from reception and were not permitted to use the pool.In another instance, a tenant wanted a key card so their partner could enter the flat without them. Knight Frank, one of the estate agents responsible for letting the building, suggested adding the person to the lease.
"But we had only been dating for four months, the tenant told the FT. "It would have been crazy ... We could break up tomorrow, and then what would I do if they had a right to reside here?"One issue that united residents earlier this year was internet access. After mistakenly charging some residents a lower fee, or in some cases nothing, the building told tenants in March it would charge £60 a month for internet use.
Residents balked at the short notice, the inability to choose their own internet provider and the price. Average entry-level broadband prices in the UK are about £25 a month, according to Enders Analysis.

"At a time when antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred and social division are causing real fear across our country, language of this kind is dangerous and irresponsible" Rabbi Charley Baginsky and Rabbi Josh Levy who co-lead the Movement for Progressive Judaism
The Movement for Progressive Judaism is appalled by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s description of the United Kingdom as the “Islamic Republic of Britain”.

At a time when antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred and social division are causing real fear across our country, language of this kind is dangerous and irresponsible.

Prime Minister Netanyahu does not speak for British Jews. His words do not represent us. British Jews are not made safer by rhetoric which denigrates British Muslims or portrays an entire community as a threat.

Jewish leadership in this country must be clear in saying so. We have a responsibility to call out language which fuels prejudice and division.

Since then, Berulis has laid low. He filed a police report, included in the suit and viewed by WIRED, and had the car seen by a mechanic who, according to the report, found “that the driver-side front impact/airbag sensor had also been removed but noted that the remaining wires had been spliced together, completing the circuit in a manner that prevented the vehicle from detecting or logging the missing component, while also preventing the vehicle from activating its safety protocols, alerting the driver, or engaging limp mode.” The police report also indicates that fingerprints had been found on Berulis’ car. According to the police report, the case is now “inactive,” “due to the lack of any specific suspect information,” though the police’s intelligence unit was notified.

Prior to his appointment at TBI, while in a government post, Vallance had spoken personally with Blair enough times to warrant a ban on helping TBI lobby the UK Government for 2 years.

Hahahaha. Farage now whining that he was badly advised by his overpaid team into calling his stupid by-election. Confirming then that he’s incapable of working it out for himself. Too busy counting his money. Honest to god, Clacton. Don’t be the constituency dunces he needs you to be. (Times)
One senior source said they believed Farage had been poorly advised over calling the by-election in Clacton.
They said that "young advisers" around Farage had not checked whether the standards' commissioner's investigation would continue in the event of the by-election and they had incorrectly assumed it would not. They also criticised "massive salaries" paid to staff who they said were "letting Nigel down".
