This week I’ve spent two days scrutinising the 🚝🚞🚆 Bill, which will create Great British Railways. I’ve pushed for stronger devolution, a target for passenger growth and funding for infrastructure and running the trains to be aligned in a five year period. 5 more committee days ahead.

Yesterday I highlighted that in a growing number of hospitals, clinicians are using at-home bladder cancer testing to reduce the number of cystoscopies and speed up diagnosis. I questioned how innovations like these can be spread across the NHS, so access does not depend on where a patient lives.

People from deprived areas have a 25% higher risk of fractures, spend longer in hospital recovering, and die in greater numbers after hip fractures. The roll out of Fracture Liaison Services is really important to tackle health inequalities, so I pushed the Govt to speed up the roll out.

Yesterday I highlighted that patients in England are struggling to access publicly funded IVF with only 2/42 ICBs complying with NICE fertility guidance. I pushed the Government to consider centralising commissioning. Having a chance to have a baby should not be based on your postcode.

Dementia is projected to reach 1.4 million people by 2040 and yet Alzheimer’s Research UK reports that up to 45% of dementia cases globally could be prevented or delayed. Today I pushed the Government for a national dementia awareness campaign to support risk reduction and healthier ageing.
