Can’t they see that the problem is these assurances are needed? Surely just don’t pass motions which require such assurances to minoritised communities!

It's hard to see how the Green party's motion today will avoid an investigation by the EHRC, given Labour was previously found in breach.

The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

Important push-back against fascist Russia's warnings/threats to foreign diplomats in Kyiv. Kyiv is safer when foreign missions are present: The Kremlin wants them gone so it can be more indiscriminate in its attacks on Ukraine's capital without risking a diplomatic incident.

Just for clarity I did quote GfP properly. They asked that a fairly long quote be used in full. I replied to say that for story-length reasons that was probably not possible but that I’d fairly précis anything not used in full. Which I did. They did not object to this in advance.

"What an indictment of my generation of politicians, too cowardly to fix something as basic as the care we give to each other ... people caring for other people's parents on poverty pay ... invisible to the political class of this country." Burnham is very emotional and driven on social care.

This theme around control - the loss of accountability and agency in the face of spiralling cost - is still easily the most powerful thread of Burnhamism among target voters. Comes up across so many issue areas. Delivery is another thing ofc, but it’s powerful territory.

Clear break from neoliberalism from Burnham - since the 1980s, "the wealth [Labour] created for the many was seen as an opportunity for the few." "The right talk about taking back control - they were the ones that gave it away in the first place" (referring to water, elec, care etc.)
