This strikes me is a common misunderstanding of the argument for humanities education, which is not that it serves as some sort of individual inoculation, but rather than it produces a citizenry more capable of self-governance when distributed widely, especially for decision-makers of every kind.

Lack of incentive should always be the default hypothesis over lack of skill. There are instances in the history of science which illustrate this lesson quite well, but one very clear implication is that group-based performance differences which racists attribute to things like IQ are never that.

Very, very pleased to have someone running for Senate in Maine who is clearly good on this issue and has no personal baggage or malcontent. It gives me pause that there are people who therefore think dropping Platner was primarily about this issue, especially given Abdul's parallel unimpeded ascent.

After Benjamin Netanyahu, who I believe is a war criminal, just came and went from New York, I’ve been thinking a lot about the world my first granddaughter is about to enter.

No child should have to grow up wondering whether the next bomb is going to hit their home. No parent should have to wonder whether they can feed their kid or keep them alive. And American taxpayer dollars should not be used to keep fueling that suffering.

Susan Collins has voted again and again to send billions in military aid to Israel throughout this war. She’s part of the same broken Washington system that keeps funding these conflicts while working people here get screwed.

When I get to the United States Senate, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop the killing, get humanitarian aid to the people who need it, and stop writing blank checks for endless wars.

A common mistake i see in online AI discourse is the framing: well, what makes you think they *aren't* conscious? It's a mistake because it puts the burden of proof on the wrong side; the question for AI's (or really anything) is: why should we think it *is* conscious?
