It's #HPVAwarenessDay and we're answering common questions about HPV and the vaccine. Want to find out more? Visit www.askaboutHPV.org #OneLessWorry
Is the vaccine safe? All scientific evidence shows that HPV vaccines are extremely safe. The World Health Organization (WHO) and virtually all countries in the world now recommend HPV vaccination. With hundreds of millions of doses distributed, no significant side effects have been identified other than the temporary reaction at the injection site.
Who can get the HPV vaccine? If you are an adult who has not been vaccinated, you may still be eligible for the vaccine. Speak to you GP or local sexual health clinic for more information.Am I completely protected from cervical cancer by the HPV vaccination? HPV vaccines only protect against the HPV types included in the vaccine; these cause around 90% of all cervical cancers.

That is why cervical screening is also important for women and people with a cervix.

Screening can detect changes caused by HPV before they cause cancer. How long does the HPV vaccination protect you? Studies that look at how long the vaccine works for are still going on, however, they have already shown that the vaccine should protect you against HPV for a long time, 20 years and maybe more.
