Side note on this: wartime Benzedrine and other amphetamines were produced in such gigantic quantities for the allies that students in the UK and Australia after the war used to take them routinely when cramming for exams.

remember: it saved no net money, social services US citizens are getting cut, and left the US in a weaker place geopolitically. none of the debates about fiscal responsibility, obligation to US citizens first, or 'hard choices' actually apply. they're all bullshit. killed people for nothing at all.

You want an example of focusing on culture war bullshit instead of warfighting, THIS is it. Hegseth isn't worried about the fact that he's set US policy goals in the Gulf back literal decades, no, he's too busy monitoring soldiers' testosterone levels and reveling in what slurs he gets to use.

Easy. The past sucked, and people in the past were frequently evil. If you were alive in 1858 or 1930 or 1939 or even 1955 it might have been hard to imagine the social progress we now take for granted. There probably seemed no path out due to the wickedness of men. Yet, somehow, we improved.

California’s bullet train agency said timely construction of the rail line depended on these reforms. They mostly failed.

I wanna make sure people understand the mendacity of this. Because below is what Becerra *actually* said. Erin lied.
Watts read the current law to Becerra, who ultimately supported the state law.
"I'm not interested as governor in having someone be bullied or someone discriminated because of who they are, simply for that reason," Becerra said. "And if the rules allow an individual to play in that sport, those are the rules and you should abide by them."

there literally is no system that is abuse proof, so at a certain point you’re just against the abstract concept of authority or power in general. I think about this when it comes to ALPRs for traffic enforcement. Like if you want to have laws at all, you have to give someone power.
