@primawesome

My neighbor told me coyotes keep eating his outdoor cats so I asked how many cats he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets anew cat afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding shelter cats to coyotes and then his daughter started crying.

I love Sigrid Nunez
“ "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED to say 'crazy' anymore," a woman sitting in an armchair on the other side of the cocktail table admonished. She was holding a canvas tote bag out of which peeked the pert snout of a miniature Yorkie. Every few min-utes, the dog had a fit of shuddering, as if some ghastly thought had occurred to it.”

A Reddit ad from the herald sun titled: How to turn a divorce settlement into an early retirement. The inset image is of a middle-aged white dude with his arms crossed and smiling slightly, overlaid over a picture of money and a torn up wedding photo.

"One Nation supporters are not unique or special. And treating their concerns as though they are more poignant, more precious, is part of a long history of racist scapegoating in this country" www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
There is no question that One Nation supporters are staggering under the weight of economic pressures. But so are we all. It is not clear to me why many media outlets are so keen to privilege the grievances of one segment of Australians over the grievances of others.

Being a Muslim doesn’t protect you from petrol prices, and my skin colour does not make me immune to rent hikes or property prices. As we know the opposite is true – on top of the problems faced by all Aussies, first-generation Australians from non-European backgrounds have a harder time finding jobs and renting homes because of racism.

One Nation supporters are not unique or special. And treating their concerns as though they are more poignant, more precious, is part of a long history of racist scapegoating in this country.

in case you've never seen it, this is Roger Ebert on The Mummy
There is within me an unslaked hunger for preposterous adventure movies. I resist the bad ones, but when a "Congo" or an
"Anaconda" comes along, my heart leaps up and I cave in. "The Mummy" is a movie like that. There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased. There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it.
