We created gyms because modern day work no
longer required physical activity. Without exercise,
our muscles atrophy.
I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al
starts doing our knowledge work.

There isn't a left wing way of doing car transport as default for the same reason there isn't a left wing way of doing fast fashion. People will always need transport & clothing & we can & should do that equitably & sustainably but we can't cling to the idea that it's going to look like it does now.

Since PTSD is being invoked to excuse any and all abuse and misconduct, let us acknowledge where it is most common. .... From my book Recollections of My Nonexistence.
The former Marine David J. Morris, author of a book on post-
traumatic stress disorder, notes that the disorder is far more com-
mon and far more rarely addressed among rape survivors than
combat veterans. He wrote me, “The science on the subject is pretty
clear: according to the New England Journal of Medicine, rape is about
four times more likely to result in diagnosable PTSD than combat.
Think about that for a moment— being raped is four times more psy-
chologically disturbing than going off to a war and being shot at and
blown up. And because there are currently no enduring cultural nar-
ratives that allow women to look upon their survival as somehow he-
roic or honorable, the potential for enduring damage is even greater.”

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

I saw a band last night who, on the logic that everyone usually misses at least 1 set at a show to smoke or socialize, insisted we miss their set so we watch everyone else. They refused to start until everyone left the room and closed the door. Whenever someone tried to peek, they stopped playing.

If you think "but how am I supposed to do this without a car?" you should ask yourself "how do people in similar circumstances but without access to a car do this & what does it mean for them if the answer is that they can't?" Because for someone else that's not a hypothetical question.

I think we're within a few years of Democrats/liberals/leftists being forced to make a hard choice between coddling violent drivers in our cities -- blocking traffic enforcement, defending "free" parking, saying $75,000 cars are for the "working class" -- and realizing those are fascist positions.

Every AI/HCI paper I review now just sounds like this.
Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.

Not sure quite where this fits into your analysis, but I think the "tolerance paradox" thing is related: e.g. if rules are (wisely) set up such that people can't be kicked out of a group for bad/vindictive reasons, this can make it hard for 'good' people to kick out 'bad' (oversimplified). IYSWIM.
