Really enjoyed presenting our genomics talk "Declare, don't parse" at #SciPy2026 with Conrad Bzura! tl; dr Problem #1: Genomics is coupled to file formats, not data Problem #2: Most genomic operations aren't even "genomic" Solution: Be composable! Slides here: abdenlab.org/scipy26

korean reporting is nightmarish on the conditions Korean workers were contained in
Their waists and hands were tied together, forcing them to bend down and lick water to drink. The unscreened bathrooms contained only a single sheet to cover their lower bodies. Sunlight barely penetrated through a fist-sized hole, and they were only allowed access to the small yard for two hours. Detained by US immigration authorities for eight days, the workers and their families expressed shock, describing human rights violations and absurdities they could not have imagined as ordinary Koreans living in 2025.

🧬🖥️ I am strongly of the opinion that bioinformatics needs to move away entirely from text-based and "loosely" structured file formats for essentially any type of data. File formats should be binary-first, and designed for *correct* and *efficient* machine parsing 1/3

Random but this claim about absolute size of GDP is not true. I was trying to work out if there was some economic rationale for preferring Russia as a trade partner/ally to the UK. I wish Google had not added a feature that randomly lies to you when you search for information. Cooler if they didn't.
