Monet's water lily garden in Giverny is an ever-changing and ever-renewing source of inspiration for me. In this painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of water lilies floating on the surface of a still pond, filled with reflections of the clouds. I applied thick brushstrokes of oil paint laid side by side without layering to capture the sense of movement and texture in the scene.

The point of studying any philosophical topic is to laboriously demonstrate the futility of thinking about it. Once you've done a PhD on it, it can be very upsetting to learn that others have started thinking about it, having learned nothing from your example.

Riley did a very good blog about this as a Library Science nerd that’s worth reading aftermath.site/google-searc...
And in this presumption, Google tries to narrow and direct my search behavior in a way that infuriates me as a library science nerd. No database is neutral, but they generally tend to stay out of your way. When you go to your local library catalogue, your desires (and your skill at using a particular repository) are what move you through, not the library catalogue nudging you toward what it thinks you should be searching for.
Google, uninvited, attempts to steer me down the path it boldly presumes I mean to go, in the process inherently attempting to limit the information I encounter by pushing me toward itself instead of actual results.
Google has always done this with its opaque and changing priorities, but that priority has changed from making websites conform to its whims to trying to force me to conform to its obsession with Al.

Could also be because capital is framed as a masculine “trait” unto itself. Someone who has a lot of capital must be the most masculine of all. Everything else we see in traditional masculinity is often an attempt at latching onto that hierarchy (e.g., “I’m powerful too!”).

(If you think centrists can’t be extremists, you’ve fallen for their own self-definition as the moderates in the debate who see that the truth is somewhere in the middle and not people who have staked an ideology to the Overton window no matter where it moves.

In much the same way, we are going to have to at some point deal with the fact that Anglo-Hindutva nationalism is becoming a thing. We live in multicultural but deeply reactionary societies, and this is now creating some very weird types of nationalism that we don't have the language to talk about.

We are very stuck on the idea that there will be a dramatic musical cue announcing when we have irrevocably crossed a line, followed by a cut to six months later when things are noticeably worse. That's... not how real life authoritarianism works a lot of the time!

1/ I think the greatest success of the far-right hasn't been in marketing racism for its own sake, but rather deceptively positioning of it as an effective if perhaps distatestful answer to major policy problems. Like it's a necessary evil you have to swallow if you want to address the big issues.
