I think it's pretty neat that one of the legit breakout indie success stories this year is a game about painstakingly designing and sewing opulent ballgowns store.steampowered.com/app/4019220/...

Dressmaker on Steam
Become a dressmaker! Choose fabric, cut out patterns, and sew them all together to satisfy (or sabotage!) townsfolk in this cozy crafting game inspired by real dressmaking.

Telling people to switch to a “more ethical bank” is like telling someone to Just Switch to Linux. Yes it’s important and good, but it also comes with frustrations and issues. (Australian friends, get in touch privately if you ever want a heads up on considerations wrt “green” Aus banking options)

The gov should put ozempic on the pbs. Possibly other glp1s too. We know that weight loss is almost impossible through diet and exercise alone unless you've lucked into a body with good homeostasis, & a socio-economic environ that enables it (weight is strongly tied to socio-economic status).

Also: What I personally want most from IRL game events in the current moment is thoughtful exhibition of playable work. I want to *play*/view + discuss games, together in the company of peers. Many devs - myself included!! - could stand to engage more in each other's work, beyond social media.

In prep for our Imbroglio episode on TSLOG, I spent a while re-reading all of @smestorp.bsky.social's old blog posts. Legit some of the best, most useful writing ever done about making videogames. Check out this nugget from May 2016, sooo good mightyvision.blogspot.com/2016/05/imbr...

- steal ideas from another game and try to fix them
- always make the grid smaller
- save up weird ideas until they naturally fit somewhere
- write down all different ideas and then fit them all into a consistent structure
- simplify the design to avoid work you don't want to do
- abandon your original idea, it was just scaffolding"

the big AI danger is not companies suddenly inventing skynet - that's marketing rubbish, musk promising mars colonies by 2030 type stuff. the danger is companies claiming to have invented skynet and then putting what they actually have, a chatbot, in charge of stuff that's important

late thoughts but the whole hank green knitting controversy feels unfair. It's literally the job of a science communicator to report when new knowledge is discovered, in this case a woman physicist who knits discovered new knowledge on the physics of knitting. Yes knitters did not know that before.

The pivot to smart glasses away from VR or, in the case of Apple, the idea that visionOS was an important stepping stone to wearables feels like cope from a bunch of dumbasses that wasted a mountain of money trying to build a usecase for the tech outside of its organic community.
