I'm an opponent of the death penalty to begin with. So of course, I think the court absolutely made the right decision here and hopefully this execution is halted permanently. She did the crime, no doubt. She should never be in civil society. She can't harm anyone in public from prison.

I'm going to agree with him. It's not about wanting your kids to go war. But if they do, you definitely do not want them in a fair fight! Both my grandfathers fought in WWII, my dad was a LRRP in Vietnam, I was a SOWT in the 24th STS and my kids will almost definitely be in a uniform someday.

Yes; but the island is a sanctuary for albatrosses (and they're everywhere). They're low flying gliders. Wind turbines would probably be a disaster in this use case.

On my todo list, someday. I have some Aussie special operations friends I worked with in Afghanistan. There are existing plans to fly into Sydney, rent Harleys and ride across the country to Perth while doing some open camping and kicking the shit out of anyone that messes with us. Someday...

I think there's a decent possibility that it might turn out that both of these guys work for their country's intelligence services and one might have been following the other. Both pilots. Disarmed a co-pilot with a knife... stayed cool under pressure. These people have some skills.

Between this flight losing its pilots (due to fighting) and the fighter jets that got scrambled to shoot it down... these passengers are extremely lucky to be alive. Plane was reportedly landed by a Ukrainian and a Russian, pilots flying as passengers, who took over and landed the flight safely.|

* on US flights. I've been on many flights from overseas carriers where the cockpit door wasn't even closed. Including one flight into YEMEN of all places (you'd think they'd have an armed guard, but there wasn't even a door).

Both the USA and Israel have developed and deployed multipurpose high energy laser systems designed to combat drones that are cheap to operate. We have such systems on various US warships and in use along the Southern Border. Ukraine needs anti-drone weapons like this, so why don't they have them?

Midway Atoll runs on a diesel-powered microgrid maintained by the U.S. govt. With abundant sun, small demand, and costly fuel shipments, it would be better suited for PV solar + battery storage to reduce diesel use and use generators only if/when there is a need.

I disagree extensively on how we raise cattle in this country (I grew up on the cattle ranch I now own and no longer raise cattle). I don't like the "feed lot model"; but this ICE situation is making that even worse because slaughter houses are having to send cattle back to feed lots - no workers.

It already has. Pentagon normally has a team that human checks targeting lists. But this Pentagon removed those people and were using AI. As such that school in Iran got it. It used to be a military building. A human would have doubled checked new sat imagery to confirm before sending it to Navy.

I think Star Trek likely gets this right. AI will kill the television star. TV may still be around, just as radio was when television became the primary source of entertainment, but it will no longer be the go to for news and entertainment.
