This is a result of very effective propaganda. It's ~5% of GDP. The majority of its use cases have alternatives already; those that don't, are being researched. Its most likely long-term use during/post-transition is plastics and lubricants. Needed, but not ahead of a thousand other things.

I’m in Lytton, British Columbia, a village that burned to the ground in about 20 minutes in a 2021 firestorm. We’ve spent this summer surrounded by more wildfire, again—bigger, faster, more violent events than ever. Our leaders have done absolutely nothing to adapt.

Disclosure rules for political fundraisers are being watered down. We'll still see in his policy decisions which oligarchs Carney serves most completely, but details will be obscured. Can't let the public see which billionaires buy favourable policy, right? 6/ www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Art is the last bulwark against real solitude. It’s words, notes, and colors filtered through human experience, a point of view. It’s an imprint of the artist’s soul, always waiting to connect I don’t think anyone can fathom life without it It will be pretty, but that’s literally all it will be

"The federal government’s proposal to legally allow projects to go ahead even if they result in an entire species going extinct is directed at projects, such as ports and pipelines, that jeopardize the existence of the endangered southern resident killer whale population" #CdnPoli
“So what (the government has) done — what they are trying to do — they are kind of bypassing any legal challenges on these whales by passing these provisions that say that they can fast-track these projects without having to adhere to the Species at Risk Act,” said MacDuffee. “So yes, this is what they’re doing. They are trying to do an end run around the Specie at Risk Act and at the same time, they’re trying to tell the public how much they’re investing in Canada’s nature.”

The Virginia case is actually more wild, someone appears to have bet money they would enter the race, then entered the race
Case 3: Virginia Democratic
Primary
We found a candidate for the Democratic Primary for Virginia's U.S. Senate election who traded in two markets related to his campaign. The first was a market on individuals who would run for public office in 2026. This person placed a trade on himself in this market. Then, once the trader announced himself as a candidate for the Democratic Primary election for Virginia U.S.
Senate, he again traded on his own candidacy.
Kalshi surveillance and enforcement teams conducted an investigation and determined both trades violated our rules. We confirmed the identity of the trader using internal information and open source intelligence. We contacted the trader, who initially acknowledged being a candidate and violating the rules, but later stopped all communication with our team and did not comply with requests to respond or settle the matter. We fined him $6,229.30 and gave him a 5-year

The City of Vancouver has just announced they had a $530 million surplus last year. It follows a $860 million surplus the year before, and years of $300+ surpluses. It's the annual reminder that when local politicians say times are tough, they're usually being misleading to suit their agendas.

Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.
