I sincerely believe that algorithms calibrated toward outrage/anger have created an atmosphere where shallow/lazy readings of media are rewards with actual money, and the exhausting discourse cycles over people not understanding subtext is getting into the heads of writers

It boils down to this: In the eleventh hour, the U.S. tried to colonize Canada via a trade deal. The same kind of stuff they pulled (and hey, that Canada pulled!) on First Nations peoples. The extremely mild descriptions of this from Carney and premiers have been extraordinarily diplomatic.
