Every AI commercial gaslights you into thinking you're an idiot. Before you had access to AI you were too stupid to find your girlfriend's makeup, or boil an egg, or pick a shirt. Every commercial starts from the premise of "Hey, so you know how you're the dumbest fucking fuck to ever do it?"

I keep rewatching this video and it doesn’t stop blowing me away. It’s the cheapness- for lack of a better word- of it. The honesty of trying to make your phone capture a good image with a dirty window in the way. The fact it doesn’t look cinematic or processed. It’s just so fucking REAL.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

A UBI would create a revolution for the ordinary worker because it would give them power to not put up places that abuse them or intimidate them. Its time for an UBI , there is no time to waste in my opinion. Sick of politicians unwilling to move towards new ways of doing things .

Someday, Punxsutawney Phil will not emerge. They will slip into that nominal space between Winter & Spring. With spiteful gnashing, they'll peak one beaty eye out to say, "I no longer see my shadow, for I have become shadow, and slayed whatever it is you think Spring is. It will haunt us nevermore."

Just so: the financial crisis laid waste to Thatcherism but our politicians and media are all Thatcherites, so they have spent all the time since desperately trying to prop up the Thatcherite consensus. Doing this has led them to the verge of fascism.

They are also intentionally conflating machine-learning and generative AI slop to confuse and try to make GenAI seem necessary. Google Maps traffic stuff is machine learning, not GenAI, for example. Auto-correct is too. Don't let them make you lose the thread. GenAI slop is slop.

Gonna go even further: don't refer to it as "consuming media" when doing this. You aren't a consumer - it's not a product. You read books. You look at art. You watch movies and/or videos. Be careful about word choice. Reject "consume" and REJECT "CONTENT." IT IS ART. YOU ARE ENGAGING WITH ART.

Tapping the sign, which now very much should include "Beware AI-generated fakes."
image of an info sheet, the "breaking news consumer's handbook" that has 9 cautions:
1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
2. Don't trust anonymous sources.
3. Don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.
3. There's almost never a second shooter.
5. Pay attention to the language the media uses, e.g.,
"we are getting reports" could mean anything; "We are seeking information" means they don't have it, and "[News outlet] has learned" means it has a scoop or is going out on a limb. 6. Look for news outlets close to the incident. 7. Compare multiple sources. 8. Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers [should add: And the AI fakes]. 9. Beware reflexive retweeting (resharing). Some of this is on you.

Tax is why all OAPs in the UK can use the bus for free. The idea that they couldn’t, or that anyone would want them not to because fare loss would be wild. In London resident OAPs can use all public transport free. Also most buses in England are run by private companies and yet still free for OAPs.
