It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

Yes. In general I think consensus view of AI should be not as objective digital substitutes for knowledge, work, experience & thought but rather as output devices engineered to filter data through the worldview of their owners. And I think this should be obvious. That’s why every rich guy owns one.

Now I’m nobody, but I think that is indicative of a set of political principles. I think that’s worth taking a note of. They do not care whether it’s useful. They do not care about the user. If you are the user, however, maybe you care.

Meanwhile the real miraculous future tech is solar & mRNA vaccines: preserving the planet and curing cancer. But we’re supposed to hand everything over to malevolent peeping toms and resource oubliettes for an ill defined ‘pay no attention to the man behind the curtain’ progress. It isn’t rational.

I just honestly can't get over that Save Women Sports, an anti-trans group could only find five trans athletes competing K through 12. Five. The NCAA president testified a year and a half ago or so that there were less than 10 college level trans athletes. What the fuck are we doing, people

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

I kinda wonder how cis people who feel comfortable abandoning trans people would feel if, theoretically, they were subject to forced transition against their will on pain of torture and potentially death by a political party? Because that's the mirror of what they expect trans people to be ok with.

The conflation of AI-critical with technophobic is tactical & infuriating. While accusing us of just knee-jerk hating tech, they’re enshittifying search engines, degrading digital archives, sundowning or enclosing popular tools, etc. We were all happily using that tech!

This is the crux of it. We can't have nice things because too many Americans would rather make life harder for themselves than let go of the belief that they're inherently superior to anyone lower on the ladder than they are (especially if the person lower on the ladder has darker skin).

tried to vent in a trans space about how, as a trans man who's been on T for a long time (over 7 years now), i have noticed that the more i pass as a man, the less welcomed i am in queer spaces unless i go out of my way to feminize myself. and how that sucks! and it's isolating!!! and it feels horrible to see ppl who used to like you and be close to you drift further and further the more masculine (& therefore more comfortable in urself) u become...
only to get ppl replying to me and saying "well if you dressed more fem then ppl wouldn't be intimidated by you. you signed up for this"
i'm sorry but i didnt sign up for social isolation when i transitioned, i signed up for gender euphoria and comfort in myself and my life. and i had hoped that the ppl in my life would be able to see how much joy that brings me and continue to love me.
