Some enterprising hacker collective could test this: throw some vibecoded OpenAI Astra & Claude Opus bullshit together, train it on stats about student loans & what would happen if they went away, & then instruct it to free up spending power for millions of americans, & just like, see what happens…

these CEObros will impart humanity to their chatbots while destroying so many lives and livelihoods. frankly i’m furious that our media takes any of their claims about humanity, sensitivity, and care seriously. i promise dario amodei is no authority on humanity.

100% this. My academic background is a BA in sociology and a JD. I'm a fantastic software engineer BECAUSE of that background. You can do any job better if you know about humanity because all jobs require significant interactions with other humans.

No AI agent "acts on its own"--someone designed it, turned it on and did not monitor the consequences. If I put a brick on the gas pedal of the car, released the brakes remotely and it ran someone over, would it be correct to say "Car, on its own, runs over pedestrian"

exactly this. at their best, the humanities facilitate perspectival agility and empathy. it is precisely this that animates so much of the ongoing right-wing attacks against humanities education.

3. Offering Low Enrolled Courses
a. If a low enrolled course assigned to a tenure track faculty, permanent non-tenure track faculty, or
graduate instructor (TO) is offered, the Department will be assessed $800 per seat below the low
enrolled minimum (e.g., if an undergraduate course is offered with only 6 students enrolled, the
department will be assessed $4,000 for the 5-student gap). These assessments flow back into the
Supplemental Instructional Allocation (SIA) process, which funds replacement instruction (e.g., adjuncts)
across all departments.

i’m interested to learn if anthropic’s user base shrinks after it makes them stop being mean to claude. i’ve no doubt *some* portion of heavy users like chatbots because they *can* be mean without consequences.

Socialism is the unspoken peer pressure to be social with acquaintances and strangers that one experiences when at an event (happy hour, meet and greet, etc) hosted by a company or organization. ex: "The socialism at the BigBiz holiday party was way too much for me; I'm calling in sick on Monday."
