Three Little Free Libraries that look like the house behind them. East York. #TOPhoto #Toronto
A small Little Free Library shaped like a house. It has two stories, a porch on the left with a gable window over it sticking out of a black shingle roof. The right has white wood panels on the first floor and cedar shingles on the floor above. It looks like the house behind it. It is in front of a white picket fence.A small Little Free Library shaped like a house. It has a brick first floor and light yellow siding on the second floor. There is a porch on the left. It has red shingles. It looks like the house behind it. It’s a bit shabby. A small Little Free Library shaped like a house. It has a door and large window on the first floor which is a mix of brick and white wood siding. The second floor has a peak of beige siding. There is a round window in the peak and there is a wooden detail at the top. It looks similar to the house behind except the big house has a second floor in the beige siding before the peak with the round window and wood detail.

Particularly the latter. I think he got lucky when U.S. overreach gave him an out from a bad trade deal he was moving toward signing. But the foreign investment summit followed by the EU visit has (at least) been a hell of a communications victory, in terms of conveying that Trump can't isolate us.

The CDC is proposing changes to the National Health Interview Survey & the census survey, which will change the type of info collected & make it harder to interpret changes between surveys. Why it matters: if we don't know a problem exists, we can't fund research to fix it www.ipums.org/about

$50 million for rural roads (over 4 years) on top of existing funding levels. Where does this money come from? A reminder that LRT frequency was cut from 5 to 10 minutes to save $1.6 million/yr. 70,000 bus service hours were cut in New Ways to Bus to save $10 million/yr.

Timeless humour! A 2,000 year-old Roman souvenir pen with a joke inscription roughly equivalent to: “I went to Rome and all I got you was this cheap pen!" 😂 Dated circa 70 AD, this iron stylus pen was recovered in London during excavations by MOLA. 📷 Juan Jose Fuldain/MOLA #Archaeology
The photo by Juan Jose Fuldain for MOLA shows four images of the same Roman iron stylus (pen) one below the other, with knib to the left. The stylus is octagonal in shape, with a dot-punched inscription along its length on four alternate sides. The stylus is 132 mm long and 5 mm thick, and the letters are circa 2 mm high. The four images of the pen show the four lines of inscribed text (highlighted) which read:

'ab urbe v[e]n[i] munus tibi gratum adf (e)ro acul[eat]um ut habe[a]s memor[ia]m nostra(m)
rogo si fortuna darlelt quo possem
largius ut longa via ceu sacculus est (v)acuus'

Translated as

I have come from the City. I bring you a welcome gift with a sharp point that you may remember me.
I ask, if fortune allowed, that I might be able (to give) as generously as the way is long (and) as my purse is empty.'

This inscription is generally interpreted by scholars as a humorous, tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment by the giver of the cheapness of the gift.

Back when I worked in publishing, I stumbled upon a whole series of stock images depicting Shakespeare confused by modern technology.
Stop photo of a guy dressed like Shakespeare sitting at a little desk, trying to figure out how to use a laptop and shrugging at the camera like “Beats me.” Stock photo of a guy dressed as Shakespeare holding up a flip phone looking confused as if to say “Prithee, forsooth, the fuck is this?” or something, I don’t know.
