the scarborough busway should inspire the city to look into longer, more permanent busways on available right-of-ways that can produce rapid transit speeds at cheaper cost and timelines. the one with greatest potential, i think, is finch east. this would transform east-west travel in scarborough.

As you fill out the Toronto Star Vote Compass, please remember that there are many ways to pay for transit that isn’t reliant on fare increases. Presenting this as a binary between better service and higher fares is disrespectful to transit advocates who work tirelessly to push for alternatives.

I've been shown around parts of Toronto by @auguststreet.ca and @fernkhahn.com so it was nice to reciprocate over one very fun week. This particular outing to downtown Dartmouth also included ice cream.

subway service interruptions are a top TTC complaint. if there was an infrastructure fix available that could eliminate 85% of delays, it is one that would be popular with the transit-riding public, and leave a lasting legacy on the system. food for thought in the upcoming election.

How much faster would GO trains be if they used electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains? Today, a 33.7km trip from Pickering to Union station makes 6 stops and takes 45 minutes Our proposed local EMU service would make 13 stops, and take only 36 minutes.

stumbled upon these old designs from architecture firm gh3* of line 5's "centennial station". very 2010s minimalism, though i really love the colour pop. this was submitted back when the plan was to continue Line 5 as a grade-separated LRT from kennedy to malvern.

majority of drivers who got a ticket in the mail did not commit another infraction. automated enforcement works to discourage unsafe and incompetent driving that blocks public transit and endangers people on bike or in crosswalks. we need this in toronto

as someone who talks to transit users everyday for work, i concur: service speed & reliability is the number one complaint *by far* when it comes to the TTC. there haven't been any ambitious transit promises to this end yet, though the mayor has an opportunity to flex that with recent rapidTO wins

the one thing i share in common with europeans (the spain/italy side of it, at least) is cooking dinner around 8pm and eating it around 9-10pm. i am aghast when i learn of americans eating dinner at 5-6pm. is the evening not worth living? have to be tucked in bed by 8pm?

the only scaleable solution here is automated enforcement. the TTC just concluded a pilot with new cameras on the streetcars to catch drivers who pass doors. but no tickets were issued and there's no real path forward because ontario law prohibits issuing tickets via automated enforcement 😒
