This is similar to the confusion around the political orientation of alt-health/wellness culture. Is it left? Is it right? It's neither. It's about populist anger, rebellion against the mainstream, and the fantasy of traditionalist return. These attitudes can be politicized in any direction.

Been reading the same exact article for about 15 years (nearly the length of time since I cut contact with my mom). Here they make it sound like a COVID phenomenon, and perhaps that had an impact, but this "trend" is not new by any stretch. Only the degree of monetization by (who else) grifters.
