This is kind of a dumb post; the square was pretty plain before, not "beautiful", and it's pretty plain now - the main thing to be done is to get tenants back into the commercial units under the hotel again (as noted in the article). www.theage.com.au/national/vic...

That's a handy 'tidbit'. Making the banks pay for paywave is *much* better than Nationals policy imo. #nzpol
Williams even revealed an extra tidbit to The Spinoff. Though it wasn’t part of the headlines handed out to the media, Labour plans to ban paywave fees as part of its new policy, putting the fees to use the service back on banks and credit card companies rather than small businesses. “Consumers should pay the sticker price, not extra charges at the till,” she said in a statement.

Williams is sometimes touted as a future Labour leader, and she probably eclipsed the current one in Māngere yesterday.

Legalizing Cannabis is a long overdue policy. It has the potential to raise hundreds of millions a year in government revenue and enable a medicinal cannabis industry to surge in growth, providing new job opportunities. It also frees up police resources to tackle bigger issues in society. #nzpol

Unaware of this "unwritten rule", I've voted in every election since leaving 20 years ago. (There is no rule, written or unwritten, vote).
“We’ve had the right to vote [overseas] since 1956, but it’s slightly frowned upon: ‘you left, it’s not your business’ is the unwritten rule,” she says. “But … democracy only works if we are all part of it.”

Love to see that off by one errors are a legal problem as well as a software development problem. According to this it's legal to keep on advertising a price that the seller has rejected. Should be "higher than" not "not lower than". As written, if I'm advertising something for $1M and I reject
(2F) Within one business day of becoming aware
that the seller has rejected a written offer to
purchase the residential property, the agent or
representative must take all reasonable steps—
(a) to remove any advertisement for the
residential property published on any
Internet site that contains a selling price or
likely selling price that is lower than the
price proposed in the rejected offer; or
(b) to amend such an advertisement so that the
selling price or likely selling price in the
advertisement is not lower than the price
proposed in the rejected offer.(2H) Subsections (2C), (2F) and (2G) do not apply
if the seller rejected the offer to purchase the
residential property for a reason other than
because the price proposed in the offer was
too low.

On track for a record year of cycling. Not massive distances, just nibbling away week by week. 2025 was probably going to be bigger but got sidetracked by a hip replacement.
2026 cycling year to date a little under 4000km, marginally below 2024 but the trajectory is steeper.2025 had a roaring start but flatlined with a hip replacement in May and ended well below 2024.

I actually can't believe that Luxon said "cry me a river" in response to cost of living crisis. Until I look it up on Hansard. Yep Luxon actually said it. Talk about being out of touch with reality. #nzpol
Hansard 15 September 2026 Oral Questions #2:

Rt Hon Chris Hipkins: When real wages have fallen, power prices have gone up, insurance prices have gone up, rates have gone up, insurance has gone up—all by more than 20 percent, under his leadership, in just the last two years—will he now admit that the cost of living crisis is not only not over; it’s getting worse under his leadership?

Rt Hon CHRISTOPHER LUXON: What I’d say, again—you know, cry me a river. But I’d say if that member was serious about supporting people, why didn’t you support tax relief for the first time for working New Zealanders? Why don’t you come out and support a council rates cap? Why don’t you come out and support structural separation for supermarkets? No idea.
