Big bertha sunspot cresting the eastern limb today... we'll see if it's a major flare player or a gentle giant. A week ago, this active region was spitting out multiple X-class flares per day.

Some large sunspots are turning over the Sun's eastern limb now.. check out these latest EUV images showing the tall coronal loops associated with their magnetic activity. The background x-ray flux level has notched up a bit higher--perhaps we will see more solar flares this coming week. We'll see!

Lastly, El Niño takes warm water stored deeper in the oceans, brings it to the surface and releases it into Earth’s atmosphere. This gives a big jolt to Global average surface temperatures. 2027 will be the warmest year on record for Earth in the history of modern humans… 3/

Emergency management does have an image problem, yes - but more than that, honestly, I think we just have an odds problem. The folks with the money know (generally) what we do. They just prefer to roll the dice on disasters not happening, or not being that bad, and save the money for other stuff.

European pre-industrial agriculture was actually good for plant diversity. This according to a study that showed diversity slumped with the Black Death as human population crashed and land was abandoned and rewilded itself. theconversation.com/the-black-de... #biodiversity #agriculture #rewilding
