So Bellevue is really going to spend $22 million widening three intersections and this is apparently not enough vehicle spending for the Chamber.

The Bellevue Chamber of Commerce is on board with increasing the sales tax and adding a car tab, with conditions: -Keep funding the $75M Spring Boulevard project -Increase the "Underperforming Intersections fund" -Protect "vehicular capacity" projects -Keep sales tax revenue out of neighborhoods
The Bellevue Chamber’s support is conditioned on the following being retained and enhanced within the
Scenario 3 package:
• Growth Corridor capital projects remain funded. TBD funding for Spring Blvd. Zone 3, 120th
Ave. NE Stage 4, and the Bellevue Grand Connection should remain at levels sufficient to enable
completion when combined with other funding sources.
• The Underperforming Intersections fund is increased and focused on the Growth Corridor.
Current funding appears sufficient for further analysis and environmental review, but not tomove several priority intersections through design and construction. We ask the Council to
increase the fund and scope it to underperforming arterial intersections in the Growth Corridor,
including the three named in our September 15 letter: 112th Ave./NE 10th St. (TFP-314), 116th
Ave. NE/NE 4th St. (TFP-315), and 116th Ave. SE/SE 1st St. (TFP-316). Because the City’s revenue
estimates have historically been conservative, we recommend dedicating the first $10 million
of any sales tax collections above projection to the fund.
• Vehicular capacity and existing transportation funding are protected. As Council has
repeatedly directed, general vehicular capacity should not be reduced when adding bicycle
facilities, except as a last resort, and the new revenue should not be used to redirect existing
general transportation funding elsewhere.
• Sales tax revenue is not shifted to neighborhood mobility programs. The added
neighborhood investments in Scenario 3 should be paid for with car tab revenue. None of the
Growth Corridor or arterial-intersection funding in Scenario 2 should be reduced or redirected
to cover them.

By bussing instead of driving, ~30 people prevented ~25g of tire particulates from running into our waterways. That much tire dust would’ve leached 130ug of 6-PPDQ, extremely toxic to salmon [1]. This much 6-PPDQ would contaminate 700 gallons of water to a degree that’s lethal to coho salmon [2].

Bellevue should reconsider plans to extend NE Spring Boulevard. An alternative bike and pedestrian trail would be much cheaper and complementary to the future BelRed park the boulevard would cut through.

Bellevue's definitely not ditching parking mandates, but just the fact that folks on the Bellevue council are saying things like this seems like a major shift compared to just a few years ago.
"I am personally interested in exploring citywide elimination of parking minimums. According to the research I did, cities like Austin, San Jose, Buffalo, had done this and seen a tremendous amount of economic boost as a result of that. So I do want us to, to be clear, I think if we did that now, it might cause a little bit of chaos," Briar said. "But I do want us eventually to see a city that is comprehensively integrated and allows end-to-end walkability as an effective mode of transportation for senior citizens, for young kids waiting at the bus stop, for for any resident or visitor of Bellevue."
