Why doesn't Labor work with the Greens to tax gas? Why doesn't Labor work with the Greens to build public housing? Why doesn't Labor work with the Greens to end AUKUS? Greens are happy to be constructive about things that materially benefit the public. We are not a rubber stamp.

The biggest coal mine expansion ever proposed in NSW has been approved by the Minns government. It threatens to wipe out Australia's emissions reductions. This is a major test for Anthony Albanese and Murray Watt; they cannot provide federal approval to a project of this scale.

This is a great insight from a young woman in Canberra on housing and time and multiculturalism www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09...
The woman who feels priced out of spare time

Rosie* is in her 30s and lives in Canberra. She captured the point vividly.

"Housing gets covered as deposits, rates, supply. Living it, the real cost is time. You work the hours the housing demands, in the suburb the housing pushed you to, and what gets sacrificed is the ability to sit down with the people around you.

"Multiculturalism worked in this country when people had time to spend with people unlike themselves. Not policy time — ordinary time. Backyards, front steps, sport, the shops, someone's kitchen. That's how a stranger stops being a category and becomes a neighbour.

"We have spent 30 years pricing that time out of people's lives and now we're surprised that cohesion is fraying and asking what went wrong with our values.

"When people are exhausted and stretched and never in the same room, difference stops being interesting and starts being threatening. That's not a failure of tolerance. It's a failure of time. That's what I'd want people in power to understand."

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Politicians like Anthony Albanese say stuff like "now is not the time to discuss climate" in the wake of fossil-fuelled disasters because they know that **there is no single better time** to talk about it, and his fossil fuel donors know that too.
News article screenshot headlined "Climate change a debate for later, PM says on Nepal floods," showing a serious middle-aged man wearing glasses and a light-blue button-up shirt outdoors against blurred trees.
PRIME MINISTER: Look, I think on Nepal, there will be time to examine the science and what has occurred here. My thoughts are solely focused, at this point in time, on the families and on the extraordinarily difficult time that we’re going through and offering our support to Nepal. And we'll continue to do that. Those debates will take place. But I don't think, from Australia's perspective, now's the time. My focus is very much on people who are incredibly traumatised by not knowing what has happened to their loved ones.

The world's most notorious custard-pie thrower is dead. What an obituary. He got Bernard-Henri Lévy seven times.
Known to his army of fans as L’Entarteur or Georges le Gloupier, Godin launched his career as a serial deflator of egos in 1969, when he planted a tarte à la crème on the face of the French novelist Marguerite Duras (“She has a kind of intelligence and cleverness that serves only her own vanity,” he complained), and he went on to “pie” a cast list of celebrities for sins ranging from pomposity to “choosing to function in the service of the capitalist status quo”.The same could not be said of Bernard-Henri Lévy, one of France’s “new philosophers,” whose provocative views on sex, frequent appearances on television and penchant for white silk shirts unbuttoned practically to the navel, had made him a cult figure – and one of Godin’s most satisfying victims.

Levy once declared: “I am the most gifted writer of my generation,” and often boasted of his reasonableness and tolerance, but he was forced to endure footage being repeatedly shown on French television of himself, covered in cream, during a visit to the Belgian city of Liège, trying to strangle Godin and shouting: “Get up, or I’ll kick your head in.”Noël Godin was born on September 13 1945 and came to pie-throwing after a rebellious youth in which he scandalised the priests in the confessional by speaking of his “horrible sexual life”, and was thrown out of Liège University after emptying a pot of glue over the head of a law lecturer who had helped write the constitution for the Portuguese dictator António de Oliveira Salazar.

He found work at Friends of Film, an obscure magazine published by the Belgian Catholic League. It had a tiny readership, which was just as well, as Godin made up most of his articles. In one he claimed that Louis Armstrong had once been a cannibal and had invested in a film called The Vegetables of Good Will in which Claudia Cardinale played a giant endive.

In another he conjured up a fictional blind Thai filmmaker named Vivian Pei, describing her film, The Lotus Flower Will Never Again Grow on the Edge of Your Island, in such convincing terms that an Asian film specialist travelled to Thailand in an effort to track her down.“We’re very careful not to hurt people,’’ he explained. “Well, they are hurt, but always in their amour-propre.”

In 1995 Godin published an autobiography, Cream and Punishment. His other targets over the years included the New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard (who charmed his assailant by hailing the attack as a homage to silent film), the French politician Nicolas Sarkozy, the choreographer Maurice Béjart and the Ryanair chairman Michael O’Leary. He tended not to pick Belgian victims, he explained, because few would notice if he did.

Bravo! 👏👏 Greg Jericho appraises the emperor's new clothes www.deepcutnews.com/p/albaneses-...
Excerpt from Greg Jericho's article in Deepcut News

"What actual good for Australians are we to get from this "investment"?

Consider what Albanese touts as the benefits of Al:

•"It's changing the way our universities teach and the way students learn."

Ok, but is that a change for the better? How do they improve the way students learn?

Give me one fricken example.

•"It's helping small business owners cut the time they spend on paperwork."

Give me strength. Is it ensuring they don't underpay their workers?

•"It's driving productivity and it's driving discovery."

Any evidence of this productivity boom? Nope. Probably for the best given the propensity of LLMs to fabricate that we are not after facts.

•"It's building new screening tools for cancer and disease."

OK good - but is this what these data centres are geared towards being used? And if this is the best thing, then why do we need to allow Al companies to strip mine the world's literary and artistic output for free?

•"It is a critical - and urgent - innovation priority for our defence force and security agencies."

Mostly what he's talking about is cyber security threats that come from Al. Sure, you can use it for some strategic planning, but let's not pretend we are all going to be safer because our army uses Al to wargame how to defend ourselves from an invasion.

And that's it. That is the big deal that we are talking about.

Would you buy a product based on that pitch? It reads like an email from a company that somehow got through your spam folder."
