The biggest coal mine expansion ever proposed in NSW has been approved by the Minns government. It threatens to wipe out Australia's emissions reductions. This is a major test for Anthony Albanese and Murray Watt; they cannot provide federal approval to a project of this scale.

Privatisation has failed. Every time an essential service is privatised, people quite literally pay for it. The price goes up and the quality of service goes down. And crucially, this failure is shared by both the major parties. Read the full piece: australiangreens.substack.com/p/victorian-...

The big supermarkets want us to think they’re struggling with inflation, fuel prices and the cost of living too – and that’s why you’re paying more. Woolies is already in hot water with the ACCC for misleading customers, yet here they are lying about blatantly ripping us off.

The coming El Niño is now expected to be the strongest since records began. The United Nations climate agency has put the world on notice that we are in the "danger zone of extreme weather". The climate crisis is here. And it is being caused by pollution from fossil fuels.

37 coal and gas mine approvals under Labor is 37 too many. The Albanese government has today approved the extension of a coal mine in Queensland that will allow them to keep digging until 2055, and threaten critical koala habitat.

My condolences to the family and friends of Australian Michael Keats today. We mourn his loss, the ongoing devastation in Nepal, and the unknown fate of 42 other Australians. My thoughts are with everyone awaiting news of their missing loved ones, and grieving those lost.

My heart goes out to the Nepalese community and everyone impacted by the devastating flash flooding that has caused unimaginable damage. We hope the 39 missing Australians and the 1300 missing others will be found alive, and our hearts break for the 389 people tragically killed.

A coal powered data centre rollout means AI will push up power bills for everyone. Labor says that letting data centres use coal & gas will push up power prices by 13%, and hit Queenslanders the hardest. They're doing it anyway.

It is good to see the Sydney Swans act, but it’s a disgrace that it took a national outcry before they did so. This is a serious issue, that is bigger than one AFL club, and a serious response with consequences for the players involved is warranted.

Renters can’t cop another 30% rent increase. Now real estate agents say it’ll happen, rich property investors are being told to hike up rents as much as they want. Renters are facing unlimited rent increases. There’s just one way to stop it. We need an immediate rent freeze.

Labor, the Liberals & One Nation will join forces to pass the biggest cut to a gov program this century. Labor’s legislation will rip $38 billion from the NDIS by decade’s end. 241,000 disabled people could lose access within five years. These aren’t numbers on a spreadsheet.

The entire Labor party should hang their heads in shame today. In one foul deal with the Liberals, the PM has abandoned vulnerable Australians and given predatory gambling companies the freedom to overrun our sport and screens.

Another woman has died in QLD, with police investigating her death as murder. My heart breaks for her loved ones. At least 30 women have been killed by violence this year, yet governments are still talking about a new action plan rather than funding the actions we need right now.

The NT Government has handed over public land for a gas-fired data centre to justify fracking in the Beetaloo Basin. This favour to their fossil fuel & big tech mates will be a disaster for climate, water, and First Nations rights, and lock in higher power prices for everyone.

Housing and homelessness is a women’s safety issue. This is something that can, and must, be fixed with real investment in public housing and frontline services. The Ministers’ meeting today must take on this challenge and send a clear signal that women’s safety matters.

Right now, wild fires are tearing through Europe, Canada, and the US. Half of England and the whole of Wales are officially in drought. Here in Australia, we are expecting one of the worst El Ninos on record. The world is on fire, people are dying and we know who lit the match.

This is taxpayer money down the drain. Households are paying too much for fuel, yet Labor's answer to every energy challenge is another handout to the fossil fuel industry. The cheapest, cleanest and most secure energy is clean energy we generate here.

This is a victory for justice. The Full Federal Court has just upheld the original finding that Pauline Hanson racially discriminated against Senator Mehreen Faruqi. Hate speech is not free speech.

Actions speak louder than words. If Labor want to ‘ensure a fairer return from our natural resources’, we’ll help them. When parliament returns the Greens will introduce a gas export tax for vote (again) and Labor can support it this time. Time to put our money where your mouth is.

Labor got more than $4 million in gambling donations in five years. One of those donors is sponsoring a fundraiser for Labor at its national conference. Another bought a table at this year’s Midwinter Ball, and hosted a Labor MP! It’s clear Labor has sold its soul on this issue.

It’s unsurprising that someone who thinks women make up domestic violence for family court benefit, and who wants to restrict women’s abortion rights, now thinks that domestic violence is a ‘two way street’ and victim blames by asking ‘why didn’t she leave’.

Labor is feeling the heat of the national campaign for a gas tax, but words are not actions. We need a 25% tax on gas exports in legislation. Now is the time to lock in and keep the pressure on.

Pauline Hanson has been on a “fact-finding” tour of the UK. The experts she chose to meet with include a billionaire ex-pop star, a multimillionaire MP whose party welcomes fascists and white supremacists as members, and a far-right activist even Nigel Farage won’t speak to.

My heart breaks for Mallorie Roberts, and for those who knew and loved her. Mallorie was a daughter, a mother and a sister, and she is the 25th woman killed by violence this year. Govt must get serious about doing what’s needed to end violence against women and children.

Australians lose $32 billion on legal forms of gambling each year. That’s more per capita than anywhere else on the planet, and it’s young people, aged 18 to 24, most at risk. This is also the group most aggressively targeted by gambling ads.

The Greens have secured changes to make it harder for wealthy property investors to outbid renters, and as it’s a small step in the right direction, will back the gov’s first tax bill. Sadly, Labor has chosen to put the 1% over millions of people trying to buy their first home.

Multinational gas corporations are ripping us off, and the Prime Minister is letting them. We need to remind him that he works for the Australian people, not the gas lobby. Join the calls for a national vote on taxing gas exports at taxourgas.com

Right now the Prime Minister is only listening to one group: the gas industry. He’s taking their money, he’s parroting their talking points, he’s writing legislation that benefits them. The one thing he's not doing? Making them pay their fair share.

Elon Musk is now the first trillionaire, but no one is celebrating this terrifying milestone. With $1 trillion, Musk could give $100 to every single person on Earth, and still be one of the ten richest people in the world. He’d still have $184 billion in the bank!

We’re on day two of the NDIS inquiry and the evidence is damning. Every single witness so far has said either: this bill must be withdrawn, this bill must not pass in its current form, or that the Senate needs more time to consider the legislation in detail.

Huge win for victim-survivors. Women being able to share their experiences of sexual violence in the ADF without fear of reprisal is the only way to reform the system. Well done to Julia Delaforce and Human Rights Law Centre - you've given many survivors their voice back.

The 20 richest Australians have more money than 3 million households. Why is that a problem? Because billionaires have more money than ever before, and they’re using it to buy more political influence.

Israel has kidnapped 11 Australians from the Global Sumud Flotilla. These ordinary people were moved to act because of international silence over the ongoing genocide and blockade of aid to Gaza and the inaction of the Australian Government.

Five women and two children have been allegedly murdered by a man known to them in the past week. More than 20 women have been killed this year. The only acceptable number of women and children killed by family, domestic and sexual violence in Australia is zero.

Labor had a real opportunity to make meaningful change with this Budget. And they chose not to. I would not describe this Budget as brave. I think it confirms this government is working for the 1%, and not for us.

Labor had a simple choice with this Budget: deliver for ordinary people, or protect the profits of the big corporations and the 1%. They chose the 1%.

On Budget night tonight, an exclusive group of Australia’s 1% will pay $110,000 to dine with Labor’s inner circle. The 1% pay a worker’s annual wage to sip champagne with the PM, while you read the news about NDIS cuts that pay for increased defence spending. It’s cooked.

One Nation’s win in Farrer didn't happen in a vacuum - it happened because the major parties have left people behind. It is getting harder to get by, and people are right to be angry. Politics should work for people, but right now the only ones benefiting are the 1%.

As stretched Australian mortgage-holders brace for yet another rate rise today, the big banks are seeing dollar signs. While you’re being smashed for an inflation problem you didn’t cause - the banks win. Labor could make the 1% pay their fair share, but they won’t.

Speaking at an industry event this morning, it's clear the PM is trying to dampen expectations of a gax export tax, claiming "no surprises" in the upcoming budget. But he's stopped short of ruling one out. It's clear that he's feeling the heat.

Booing at Anzac Day ceremonies across the country was a coordinated campaign by the far-right. They have openly bragged about it. Angus Taylor and Barnaby Joyce backing in these nonsense attacks on Welcome to Country just gives those booing what they wanted.
