A 3rd/4thC parchment fragment of part of Book 12 of the Odyssey has been discovered in the library at the University of Utrecht by Dr Mark de Kreij (Radboud University). Many thanks to @dearcheoloog for posting, and for including a link to the informative newspaper article reporting the find.

Norfolk nature people I'm looking for some outdoor work volunteering for my 19 year old son. He had a taster day for an apprenticeship with the broads authority that he unfortunately didn't get (they were doing brush and tree clearing) but he enjoyed the work.

Falbygden in Sweden has among other ancient remains three quarters of all of Sweden’s passage tombs. About 260 monuments have survived. This makes Falbygden home to one of the largest concentrations of megalithic tombs in northern Europe. #StandingStoneSunday

I am off to Brittany on Tuesday, and I hope to visit one of my favourite ancient (or probably ancient) monuments. Known as 'Babouin' (the Baboon), this enigmatic carved stone of indeterminate age can be found in the woods near Trédion. #StandingStoneSunday

The Byzantine monastery of Daphni (Δαφνί), founded in the late 6th and rebuilt in the 11th century, complete with a scriptorium, library room, early Komnenian mosaics, and antique spolia going back to the 4th century BC.

An article last year claimed that tree-ring data shows a link between drought and late Roman conflicts such as the "Barbarian Conspiracy" of 367.
