In Denmark a scientist plotted data and research findings into Claude, only to see Anthropic publish the findings as something the LLM had conjured up on its own. The theft of one scientist’s data and work translates into false claims about the model’s ability to generate research #ai #eupol

I forgot how nice the review of us was in JLSC
The librarypunk podcast strikes a good balance between education and entertainment. With a
wide range of topics and guests, there is something for everyone in librarianship who is interested in delving into subject matter from leftist social, political, and economic perspectives.
The hosts posit interesting questions, some of which, of course, lack conclusive responses. The
podcast’s punk nonconformist, anti-authoritarianist spirit fosters a nontraditional way of dis
cussing librarianship. To be clear, “punk” does not imply that topics covered are not presented
in a scholarly way. On the contrary, the hosts take time to educate listeners, and each other, on
the topic of the week. Although the hosts claim it is not a professional podcast, the content
presented can be used to help advance library practices and improve the field as a whole.
Accepting that librarianship is not neutral, and that all systems are biased, has the potential
to open wider conversations and actually induce change. It is highly recommended to subscribe to librarypunk.

Why do people with ME claim to know more about the medical aspects of their disease than their doctors? Because the mechanisms that usually ensure doctors' knowledge fail in the case of ME, and sick people have created mechanisms of knowledge production and dissemination to pick up the slack.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Now that we have proof that AI generated findings are more likely to be research misconduct taken from those who uploaded their findings, perhaps institutions should rethink AI contracts? If it doesn't prohibit use of what you upload to train the model, you're agreeing to the misconduct.

New data shows tuition has gone up more than 20% in the last 5 years. Starting next week, we’ll break it down by province. With tuition going up and student financial supports going down, fewer Canadians can access education. Tell the government to stop cutting student supports.
