Kimi Antonelli is to Olivia Rodrigo as Fernando Alonso is to Taylor Swift would make for a wild SAT prep question.

People and agencies opting for "super intelligence" in common parlance is a very useful tell for their propensity to comply in advance. It's not more accurate, easier to say, more useful, or more descriptive. It's just an authoritarian attempt to see what they can get away with linguistically.

It’s good that Fernando Alonso signed to another year of Aston Martin because I’m pretty sure I will simply dissolve into dust when he retires.

My main question for the Mary Beard stans on the timeline is what do you understand « love » to mean? Because for all apparently treating reading as a component of wellbeing is allegedly dooming society, I’d posit that she has a painfully facile notion of what people mean by « love » for an adult.

Remember when John Horgan launched a Covid spike across BC so he could have his opportunistic election call? Lord knows what the actual cost of that gambit was. This one seems to be going just as well for the most marginalized folks in the province.

We have always had a two-tier approach to academic integrity in the university structure. “Culture” of academic integrity is usually a list of rules for students to follow and limited accountability for anybody else. AI has exacerbated this but it did not create it.

I goddamn loathe the political opportunism of the absolutely craven, valueless BCNDP and I much more greatly loathe a political landscape where there’s no one else to vote for. I may skip it this year for the first time in my life.

It’s a “making a The Bear omelette” for lunch kind of day here (my aunt gave us a bag of sour cream and onion chips for the Coquihalla drive yesterday, and when you have sour cream and onion chips you have to make the The Bear omelette).

Kiddo and I went to a fancy children’s literature themed tea today. The experience was amazing — the food was stunningly presented and delicious, the service completely perfect. “Worth the button-up shirt,” declared kiddo. But, y’all, I think our brains have truly been cooked.

It is resolutely, manifestly, & absolutely true that living in a hellscape amidst ever-increasing attacks on all that is good & just is exhausting. I would also like to gently suggest that a lot of you have Long Covid & don't know it.

Excited to be at the @chaisenetwork.bsky.social launch today. We’re talking about bringing a humanistic voice to scholarship about AI (it’s not just tech bros who know stuff!). If you’re in Vancouver there’s still time to make it to the public event tonight at 7:30 at the Liu Institute.

A lawsuit has been filed against Padlet, alleging they share student data in real time to 160+ third parties (including data brokers, Meta, and Google). Padlet is heavily used in K-12 as well as higher education with students who have no choice. Read the complaint: drive.google.com/file/d/1OGPe...

Middle of the road musicians will only espouse mealy-mouthed, middle of the road politics. Sheeran, Swift, it's all the same. If you are a billionaire/aspiring billionaire and all the people you want to impress are billionaires, and if your major metric for success is mass appeal, it is ever thus.

At a post-secondary I used to work at we had what we called the Ubiquitous Cake of Appreciation; it appeared to be the only cake the food services folks could make to feed a crowd and it was only ordered in periods of high appreciation. (High turnover, too, but never mind.)

I find it impossible to believe anyone truly gives a shit about the Williams F1 team and its 1979 livery for the Spanish Grand Prix. You cannot be like “gasp, Bin Laden family connection circa 1979!” and clutch your pearls when the Saudi royal family is everywhere in F1. 9/11 never forget, baby.

First day of school here today and the kids go in for two hours, which makes sense as a first day meet-and-greet with the new teacher but they don’t have classroom assignments yet so it’s just a random two hours with last year’s teacher. One day I will develop the nerve to just keep them home.
