One of the things I like about here is that most people commenting on things with any sort of authority are much more likely to be professors or some sort of actual person who studies the thing than they are pundits, saw a thing on Ebola that was like 8 professors in a row

Today I learned that Kars4Kids isn't even a charity for kids in need.
Kars4Kids Chief Operating Officer Esti Landau testified that the charity’s “primary function” was to fund Oorah, which is dedicated to Jewish heritage summer camps in New York and New Jersey, per the court order. She also said that while 25% of the charity’s revenue comes from California, there are no programs in the state that benefit from Kars4Kids beyond a backpack drive “characterized as a branding exercise.”

Kids in need aren’t even really the target of the organization’s financial efforts. Instead, those go to 17- and 18-year-olds seeking gap-year trips to Israel and their families. Landau testified that $16.5 million even went to purchasing a building in Israel in 2022, and $437,000 was spent on “Middle East outreach.

Agreed. It's not possible to reconcile "rule of law" with "one week the GOP SCOTUS will nullify a 43-year-old statute so they can allow racial gerrymandering, then the next week the GOP VA SC will block voter-approved redistricting and have themselves a laugh by citing the SCOTUS liberals' dissent."

The Systemd Age Verification isn't about "compliance". It's a Trojan Horse for Lennart Poettering's new startup. age verification
Context: Systemd just merged PR #40954, hardcoding a birthDate field into PID 1 for state age-verification laws. But if you look at the creator's recent moves, the real agenda is terrifyingly clear.
Lennart Poettering just spent the last few years at Microsoft and recently left to launch a new startup called Amutable. Their entire buisness model? Selling "cryptographically verifiable integrity", OS attestation, and deterministic state compliance for Linux.X r/privacy
He isn't adding this birthdate field to protect kids or help distros dodge a lawsuit. He is literaly building the exact identity and compliance infastructure his new company needs to sell attestation services, right into the Linux core. It's an open-source trojan horse for his own commercial pipeline. You don't build the plumbing for a digital cage unless you plan on selling the locks.

I dunno, seems relevant. Who up up tightening they tolerances? I RAN the numbers, that’s at least 3 bad parts. Iran currently singing “thank you for being a frieieiend” to whomstever this company is. I’m tired, grandpa!
Danevasiones •
Used to make missile parts that were being sold to Lockheed Martin. The parts had extremely tight tolerances that my company found hard to meet (because the machine programmer sucked).
Eventually we had about 100 parts that were within tolerance. The inspection guy decided it was a good idea to keep them as "the golden girls". And every time lockheed would send someone for source inspection, he would inspect these same 100 parts infront of them everytime.
So the company was knowingly lying so they could send out of tolerance parts to be used in missiles. Lockheed must have never caught on cause that was like 4 years ago and they still are making the same parts for them.

So USPS is now instructing carriers to track political mail
Form handed out by USPS to carriers instruction them to track political mailNote from mail carrier reporting on this: I am a mail carrier. I have been so for a number of years, through election cycles. Today, I was informed that we must now, on top of our other duties, track political mail, where it is delivered to, and if it IS delivered.
To give some context to that, we were trained that it is a felony to tamper with or impede the delivery of mail, period. Because we're humans, intent means a lot, because it is easily possible for someone to miss a letter for whatever reason, and the USPS does not want to punish people for honest mistakes. However, now: dispite the fact that it is a felony to mess with mail delivery, and the fact that we have that drilled into us during training, we are being required to track the delivery of politcal mail specifically.
IDK if this has the same legal restrictions on info gathering that the
USPS has typically had with protecting PIl, but I suspect it doesn't. I suspect it's made to ensure we are delivering republican political mail and to track who is receiving democratic political mail.
There isn't even any explanation about what is and is not political mail.
Is something from a non-profit
V
organization poitcal mail?

One of the hardest things to explain to people who aren’t here is the very real feeling that we are in a war against the federal government. Not only are we occupied by unaccountable armed, masked paramilitaries, but we are constantly aware our neighbors might be abducted in the blink of an eye.

This is so unhinged
"He told me that he doesn't understand what's wrong with Minnesota. 'I don't know what's wrong with you people,'" Walz said Wednesday in an exclusive interview with MS NOW senior national and political correspondent Jacob Soboroff.
"I said, 'Nothing's wrong, Mr. President. We're one of the most effective states and one of the best places to live?
"And he told me, 'Well, look, Tim, we did this in New Orleans, we did it in Louisville, there's no problems? And I said, 'You didn't kill anybody in Louisville or New Orleans. And the operation here looks very different from that.?
"And then he told me it was successful in Venezuela," Walz said.

frankly i think it's disgusting to share an article about a candidate's strategies to accuse her of "campaign fraud" while deliberately ignoring the parts of the article where 1) the campaign actively works to maintain compliance 2) the tampons were all donated, not purchased with campaign funds
Part of that cost is spending a significant amount of time on compliance with campaign finance regulations.
Abughazaleh told The Intercept that the campaign works with a compliance firm that carefully monitors the pools of resources being donated to, or by, the campaign's mutual aid arm.specific supplies. A request for tampons for Chicago's Period Collective, for example, resulted in a massive outpouring of support. "We ended up getting over 5,600, and my campaign manager's car was just filled with tampons," said Abughazaleh through laughter. "I wanted him to get pulled over so bad.
