Your occasional reminder that the commandment to "love the stranger" is from the Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament, where it appears 36 times (the most repeated of any of the commandments, iirc) so if you like Talarico's message, thank the Jews 😁

Interesting that conservatives are concerned about ruining the lives of male college students accused of rape but have little concern for the lives of girls and women forced to give birth against their will

Every college in this country decided that expelling and/or sending the police to beat the shit out of their own students for the crime of being opposed to genocide was their top priority. That and giving Trump complete control of what they teach. Contrast that with how they treat rapists.

this is a light bulb AI agents need to be told what to do in simple words, by when, using what resources, who to notify & require me to break down the steps AND explicitly bar common short cuts that I know will fail if I wanted to do all that I would marry a man & he would at least earn a salary

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.

Any analysis of the Iran War that doesn't start and end with the fact that an entire cottage industry of think tankers and lobbyists and their friends in Congress were frothing at the mouth for literal decades for this got exactly what they wanted and it failed immediately and totally is wrong.

I don't love dunking on folks but it's so fucking funny to me that Trump was convicted of 34 felonies 2 years ago, faced no punishment, and went on to win the presidency a second time and journalists are still like, "hmm, I have an inkling that maybe he believes he's above the law for some reason."
Post from NYT reporter Eric Lipton

"What an odd moment in United States history.

A U.S. president is running an overtly political campaign advertisement, right before midterm elections, paid for by the U.S. government.

Trump appears to believe he is immune from any kind of legal limit."

From the article: “The thing we don't hear about enough, in my opinion, is the lives and humanity of pregnant people.” 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 In Judaism, the fetus is regarded as a part of the pregnant person's body until birth. Because whose life matters most is the one already born.

I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.

This was Biden's ultimate failure. The inability to see that people weren't voting for Biden because they especially liked Biden. It was because they hated Trump. Now, Democrats are about to make the same mistake again. They think votes for them validate their inaction and their corporatism.

It is seriously exhausting to be in a political community in which you must constantly explain to people that they are not going to like the consequence of electing a Republican, then see them flop and sweat when they finally face those consequences, and act like they had no idea this would happen.

How a particular candidate can motivate their base while also reaching out to other voters is specific to the candidate and the race. But it's silly to act like the only task the candidate has is to reach out to low-info swing voters and the base should motivate themselves or be blamed for the loss.
