In today’s long read, we dig into Amazon’s add-on streaming service model, which the platform seems to mistakenly believe is the future of streaming cable.

Coyote vs. Acme (Green, 2026): 🎶It's a sad song It's a sad tale, it's a tragedy It's a sad song But we sing it anyway Cause, here's the thing: To know how it ends And still begin to sing it again As if it might turn out this time I learned that from a friend of mine🎶

I recommend to you this podcast series about Dolly Parton by Jad Abumrad (creator of Radio Lab). You may ask: how did a MacArthur Award winning pub radio guy meet Dolly? Because she personally funded his father's vaccine research, that's how. www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/dol...

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.

A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.

somewhere in this life, someone said "hey, this binge watching thing is great, let's do it all that way!" without realizing that the actual phenomenon was buttressed by an entire media landscape that has now essentially vanished because of the initial success and novelty of stream-binging.

i believe that the the entire "binge watch" model of releasing television series is based on a faulty premise, and that faulty premise has significantly devaluated television as an art form. stick with me on this one...

A story I love about Anthony Stewart Head. Thank you to this person for sharing it on Tumblr. What a mensch.

A photo of Tony Head with a fan, standing in a barn near a horse. Tumblr post from dracofidus: If you EVER think Anthony Head is anything less than an angel then you'd best remember that I have always been a huge fan of his and we've always had a little contact over the years and he heard I'd come out as Trans and was having a hard time and that I was kind of sad that the photos I had from conventions with him were of me with long hair and no binder and they were all signed to "Sarah" and so he invited me to spend the day with him at his farm and he picked me up from the station and we just hung out and had lunch and he insisted on paying and look loads of photos and had them printed on photo paper the same day so he could sign them to Jay, along with other photos of him as Giles and Utger and he literally spent five hours chatting with me and got all the pronoun stuff right every time and then he dropped me off at the station, gave me a massive hug. Waved me through the ticket barrier and insisted I message him when I got home so he knew I was back safe.

I appreciate your post because I love learning about baking. I had to look up what a Roly-Poly was after hearing UK's entry this year. But just assumed it was made the same as a jelly/swiss roll. Had no idea it was steamed! One day I hope to have the courage to make a proper xmas pudding.

Wowza, I had no idea that's how those are made! Across the pond we have a different version called a Jelly Roll. You bake the sponge, roll it without filling so it cools in the proper shape, and then carefully unroll to add the jam. www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/jell...

A noir-style illustrated poster titled “The Case of the Disappearing Copyright.” The Lockette—a cartoon character whose body is an open yellow padlock—cautiously steps out of an open vault marked with a copyright symbol. A strong beam of light shines from outside the frame, casting a large copyright symbol onto the floor. Floating eyes and a magnifying glass with a question mark evoke a detective mystery. Red footprints lead toward the open vault door. Text reads: “Public Domain Day 2026” and “Jan 21st @10am PT: Virtual.” Illustrated by Freya Morgan.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.
