The Labour Party’s women’s conference on 26/9/26 was an embarrassing farce, with only 200 delegates of the 1,000 normal attendance (no major unions) in protest of the Labour Party’s shameful abandonment of trans people following the legally absurd ruling of the Supreme Court in FWS in April 2025.

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.

Wondering why the UK commentariat isn’t asking how hundreds of members of a fascist paramilitary group was able to respond within three hours of the arrival of a boat of refugees at Eastney marina in Portsmouth, but then I remember there’s also a chance one of those nerds might’ve tipped them off

And it’s not like it’s a mystery who it was that led and helped these nasty, bullshitty hate campaigns. We know which constituencies they represent, we’ve seen them on TV, we’ve seen their byline photos. It is very clear who has been working to make Britain nastier, more horrible and more extreme.

It has always been like this.
The Battle of Cable Street was a series of
clashes that took place at several locations in the East End of London, most famously Cable Street on Sunday 4 October 1936. It was a clash between the Metropolitan Police, sent to protect a march by the British Union of Fascists BUF).l2. ed by Oswald Mosley, and anti-fascist demonstrators organised by the Independent Labour Party, the Communist Party of Great Britain and the Jewish Peoples Council. The anti-fascist counter-demonstration included both organised and unaffiliated participants

Ngl, I am increasingly cranky about what seems to be a complete lack of rigour, curiosity, depth of thought across many domains of public life in Britain today. What is going on with far right disorder raises really fundamental questions for the state and society, but nobody seems interested.

I know people really want to resist this idea, but there’s an increasing pile of evidence that lots of people in positions of power aren’t trying to do some delicate balancing act to keep the peace, but simply agree with the aims and to an extent the actions of the fascists.

Most transphobia, or so it seems to me, is about wanting culturally contingent hierarchies and identity scripts to be Inscribed in Nature in some deep way that obviates the need for reflective examination, and getting very anxious and angry about anything that makes it clear that’s a fantasy.

From Wikipedia:

The purpose of a system is what it does (POSIWID) is a heuristic in systems thinking coined by the British management consultant Stafford Beer,[1] who stated that there is "no point in claiming that the purpose of a system is to do what it constantly fails to do".[2] It is used in systems theory, and is generally invoked to counter the notion that the purpose of a system can or should be read from the intentions of those who design, operate, or promote it. When a system's side effects or unintended consequences reveal that its behaviour is poorly understood, then the POSIWID perspective can balance political understandings of system behaviour with a more straightforwardly descriptive view.
