If we are to avert global climate catastrophe, this is going to be critical. A new study confirms solar and wind costs are still falling, gas costs are soaring, and battery energy storage systems are now cheaper than gas peaking plants pretty much everywhere. www.businessgreen.com/news/4537069...

Isn't lying part of the job for politicians though? Most election manifestos are lies*. Most of what politicians say during elections is lies*. Most of what politicians say to the media is lies*. * or at least distortions.

I often see people argue that clean energy is not reducing emissions, because it just adds to rather than replaces fossil fuels. This argument is deeply misguided – clean energy built since 2005 has displaced 23 billion tons. I dive in over at The Climate Brink:
theclimatebrink.com
What if the world hadn't built wind and solar?
Clean energy does not simply “add to” global energy use; it displaces fossil sources that would otherwise get built.

Bob Larkin’s cover to 1980’s Crazy #60 featuring Spock & Kirk from Star Trek and, from The Muppets, the Pigs In Space. It’s a great tragedy that nobody in power saw this & thought, this is exactly the kind of movie we ought to be making.

"I've worked all my life and paid into my pension and now it's being taken away from me" NOT TRUE! There is no giant pension fund. What you paid in for all those years paid your parent's and grandparent's pensions. The youngsters of today are paying your pension. State pension IS a benefit.

Oh, it can work. The Star Trek changes are a good example, but even those don't give the ships the same sense of "weight" that they had from model shots. It's highly subjective, which is why I'm always glad when you're given the option of which effects you see.

Similarly with updating special effects. Some of the best effects were obtained by working round limitations. When you can create anything digitally then you sometimes lose the magic of wondering how they achieved the effect.

I'm sorry but the idea of turning black and white movies and photos leaves me cold. Yes, I know the argument that if they could the old film makers would have used colour, but they didn't have the technology so did amazing things with what they had.
