Black and white screenshot from The Man From U.N.C.L.E., early sixties. In what looks like a hotel room or maybe a gallery (given the paintings on the wall and the statue bust, but there's also a couch in the background), a young man in a suit hands over a suitcase to a rather Russian-coded villain (fur coat) who is pointing a gun at the presumably American man.
Nothing special here, except the suited man is played by William Shatner and the "Russian" by Leonard Nimoy, a couple of years prior to Star Trek.

No one rocks leopard 🐆 print quite like Bacchus and a few years ago while at the RISD museum I got to see my favorite late antique Bacchus mosaic up close (photo is my own, from a villa at Daphne near Antioch (modern Antakya, Turkey) now at RISD, 325-330 CE).

Limestone tesserae
Acquired by exchange from Worcester Art Museum 40.195
Economic prosperity in the city of Antioch, a vital agricultural and commercial center at the crossroads of the Roman Empire, created an expansive middle-class population with a taste for luxury and beauty.
Villas in this region were often opulently decorated with stunning wall frescos and floor mosaics, like this medallion of the wine god Bacchus (the Greek Dionysos). While today this mosaic is displayed on the Museum's wall, it was originally located in the entrance hall of a Roman villa, as part of a much larger floor pavement that also included the mosaic to the right. As guests walked across the floor mosaic, these images of the wine god Bacchus and his thiasus, or followers, would have created an atmosphere of wine-drinking revelry and merriment, inviting them to enjoy the pleasures of life.Roman, from a villa at Daphne near Antioch (modern Antakya, Turkey)

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.
