This is the part that strikes me, having lived there. It’s also the reason I don’t think the prescriptions to reach Russians will work - large parts of Russian society have learned to devalue individuals and worry only about themselves and their families. Compassion has been pounded out of them.

I have experience of this. Some year ago I knew a Russian lady. She was in her late 40's, had lived in the UK at least 5 years. However her knowledge of history was "skewed". She had not heard of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. And denied that Russia had invaded Poland.

Early during COVID, I read a book about historic epidemics. The opening was about an outbreak of yersinia pestis (pneumonic plague, The Black Death) in Los Angeles (!!!) ca. 1910 (from memory). Less than 10 people died. 100 years later, I am not that worried about the Russia incident.

6 of these frozen blocks of chicken broth are left from the big bird I fried on Fryday. Had the fried meat then. Cooked the broth yesterday and turned the remaining meat into a spicy stir fry which I finished ca. 5 minutes ago. Big bird, three days of good eating. 😊
