Greg Jein's "Fat-D" The first Enterprise-D clay study model produced to help refine form and detail. The last photo is a second model, much closer to the final starship.

Much as I would have loved to see Voyager's aeroshuttle in action, the real tragedy was never seeing the Enterprise-D captain’s yacht. It's such a unique craft and it would have been so cool to see Picard chilling out in it. [Art by Andrew Probert]

One of the first bits of art I posted to Twitter back in 2022 after making this account there. The Enterprise-D being so large, I reasoned that it might take a dangerously long time for everyone to reach the lifeboats. This concept shows tall lifeboats spanning multiple decks. [1/2]

Cutaway diagram of the Enterprise-D showing tall but thin lifeboats that reach multiple decks into the ship and can be ejected outwards in an evacuation. All illustrated in the style of the Star Trek Next Generation Technical Manual.

The main text reads:

Designed to supplement or replace the smaller lifeboats placed around the exterior hull, these core lifeboats would be embedded deeper into the vessel, spanning multiple decks.

These would allow the crew and their families to more rapidly reach an emergency evacuation point without having to rely on the turbolifts or potentially walk across a large portion of the ship.

The larger core lifeboat pods can be docked in "gaggle mode" with others core pods in addition to standard lifeboats.

Randomly prompted by seeing some model work, I vividly remember the first image of the Enterprise D (on the back of TV Zone?) and being blown away by its weirdness. It's hard to recapture quite how unfamiliar it seemed at the time; a genuinely bold reimagining of the familiar topography. #StarTrek

I acquired this prop from the 403 Auction and it was labeled generically as “sci-fi prop.” It was prominently seen most recently in #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds, “Those Old Scientists”, as a “matter synthesizer” when Boimler and Spock are working in the lab to synthesize horonium.

A custom-built production-made prop from Star Trek Strange New Worlds and Star Trek Discovery. In this configuration, it is billed as a “matter synthesizer.” The prop is made of 3D printed black and grey parts forming a cylindrical vessel along with metal parts clear curved acrylic viewing window. Paired with the prop is a white yeti tumbler that has a “radioactive label” on it.

The same prop mentioned in the first image from a side angle. The black handles have a repurposed PlayStation toggle joystick attached.
