The Pentagon is notifying millions of current and former U.S. military servicemembers and staff that hackers stole their *unencrypted* personal information during a months-long data breach. The agency that had the breach also handles ID and login/credential access to U.S. military systems and bases.

A really good demonstration that "reasoning" models are producing output that sounds like reasoning but reasoning is not what they seem to be doing.

The first time I heard about AI methods in microscopy, I worried about hallucinating features that didn't exist. And that was just thinking about well-meaning experimentalists unintentionally producing hallucinated data.

Why has the GOP been so procedurally extreme for so long? Because Republicans radicalized themselves against the government they were working within. There was a real logic to it, quite apart from the awful substantive vision. Now, Dems are working in a government fully corrupted by Donald Trump...

That's ironic, because Biden had to withdraw from Afghanistan by a certain time based on an agreement Trump struck and Trump wouldn't stop attacking him for doing so.

Seems like some version of this runs every day
Like many of her neighbors, Ms. Vuittonet had been worried about the streams of new immigrants coming across the Rio Grande during the Biden administration and had trusted that Mr. Trump would stop them. Although some Trump supporters held signs calling for "mass deportations now" during the 2024 campaign, Ms. Vuittonet never thought such deportations would include people she knew who had lived in the United States for decades.
"I knew that he was going to start deporting people, but that he was going to go after bad criminals, like true hardcore criminals, rapists, killers," Ms. Vuittonet said, sitting in the small coffee shop she runs from the back of an antique store.
She thought of her six children, who range from ages 6 to 12. "Of course I want the streets safe."
But when her brother was taken to an immigration detention center earlier this year, just days after a scheduled check-in with an immigration official, she said it felt like a punch to the gut.

A small but essential improvement on federal impeachment is widely used in the states: if a lower house impeaches you, you are *suspended from office* until & unless the upper house acquits you. That's what happened w Paxton. It's the obvious way to handle credible allegations of official misconduct

Not just impeachable. Impeachment, both pres. and agency heads, is the only option. It's impeachment or nothing. Courts won't stop it. Other tools are impotent. Put them on trial the only way you can. Even if you can't get 2/3, use process as punishment. Make it miserable and costly. It can be done.

Notably, travel times also did not increase outside the congestion zone. This mirrors what we have seen in other aggregate congestion pricing impacts. For example, it was predicted that drivers would change their routes to avoid the zone, creating new congestion; this, too, did not happen.
