This is just a terrible take. Large chunks of the US government have been destroyed and rebuilding is the first order priority to ensure people get the services they need. The second to make sure it never happens again. Efficiency? Nope. We need a Marshall Plan for the US.

So, apparently the T.H. Chan School of Public Health has beclowned itself with a series of studies claiming an association of cancer with proximity to nuclear power plants. The only problem? That association is linked with every single landmark one can test. In other words, a statistical artifact.

Establish that violations of the Emoluments Clauses and the Establishment Clause are impeachable. Establish that war crimes are impeachable. None of these require the mens rea questions that so sidetracked the first two Trump impeachments. The facts are the facts.

such that the impeachment votes could be held seriatim on day one of a new Congress. There could be fifty different charges against Trump. Let the Senate try ' em all. Establish that violations of the War Powers Act, the Budget and Impoundment Act, or the Antideficiency Act are impeachable.

I'm not naive enough to actually believe this will happen, but Democrats could be preparing, right now, lists of impeachment charges against (at a bare minimum) Hegseth, Kennedy, Mullin, Patel, Blanche, & Trump, as well as Bondi, Bovino, & Noem (still worth doing!) that rely purely on public facts,

Yes,maybe it does mean that this piece wouldn’t have been published, but maybe that itself is an indicator. If you don’t care enough to put your human time into the writing, why do you care enough to say it at all?

I also think most of the edge cases Prachee uses to criticize arxiv’s approach are disingenuous at best. Oh, you have a bunch of experimental results to show at once? Put them all in one paper, and learn to tell the story of your research and YOUR THOUGHTS that got you to run all those experiments.

We could; but then we'd still need a way to roughly know when people across the country are awake and at work if we want to communicate with them. Which time zones really help with. Plus, I think we should strive to keep noon +/- 30 min of actual solar noon as much as we can.

yo did you see this shit yet www.dpreview.com/photography/...
"Are you kidding me" photo -
Photographer description: A young Great Horned Owl had barely settled onto its perch before a protective squirrel launched a surprise aerial tackle, knocking it into the grass below. The most unbelievable part? The squirrel repeated the stunt two more times. The owl and squirrel were shaken up, but unharmed. I have been observing and photographing Great Horned Owls at this location for around nine years, and I had never seen anything like this before. An adult pair was raising two chicks, and once the young owls began branching, I started visiting them regularly in the mornings and evenings to observe their behavior. On this particular morning, I spotted one of the seven-week-old owlets perched in a pine tree along the path.

But also, maybe it'd be better to pull together an annual wrap-up collection of whatever hanging bits and pieces you want to get out, which allows reflection and consideration, rather than some piecemeal rapid-release model. Most research doesn't benefit from extreme dissemination speed.

Nicholas Bauer PhD @bioturbonick.net · 12h
FWIW, I think there could be some value in that, if the pieces are being selected for value. But there's no reason that kind of model needs to use the existing infrastructure meant for long-form articles.

Public forum for communication is a precious resource. All communication channels are being corrupted by tech (e.g. spam calls). Slowing things down is a good heuristic to create a cost incentive for low quality messages.

I feel that if the ideas aren't important enough to a person to write directly, or clear enough in their head to express in written form, it probably also isn't worth it to write, and little value to themselves or their readers in having a computer try to do it for them.

ONE MILLLLLIONNN dollars. I laughed! $500 is a decent bid at someone’s vote (not $5000, but still good) but to make a difference in any specific race you’d have to target exactly the right people, which I think would be 1) very difficult and 2) more obviously illegal.
