It wasn’t half as babbling and deranged as this but I saw a clip on BBC earlier where he was asked about Scotland Yard and was all “Oh yeah, I think they’ll catch them, I really rate Scotland Yard, those guys know what they’re doing” and it’s clearly just because of some vague memory of a movie.

Solidarity with Gavin Bazunu, who is (I believe) the first European footballer to ever refuse to compete against the Israeli national team. 482 matches after the illegal occupation of the West Bank. 17 matches after the UN considers the current genocide began. 7 matches after the UN ruling.

League of Ireland clubs have been vehemently against this match, more or less across the board. The only current Ireland player to have been involved with a League of Ireland club in recent times is Gavin Bazunu. He has my respect for listening to people he trusts.

The FAI repeatedly told us players would be protected. Yet when a 24 year old acted on his conscience, they left him to stand alone & used a vote among his teammates to validate their own cowardice. This isn’t protecting a young player, it’s protecting themselves at his expense. #StopTheGame

I wish I had more faith in the Irish players not to play against Israel on Sunday, but I really don’t. Far too many young men have been conditioned to the idea that sport and politics are separate, despite the notion being laughable when you sing a national anthem and face a flag before matches.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

Casual racism (ID 'only secondarily connected to skin color'), total ignorance of neurodevelopmental conditions (none of her examples is an ID, a mental health condition, or evidence of academic unsuitability)--Kathleen Stock is a gowl, but the media who platform her are irredeemable.
I have a possible explanation that is only secondarily connected to skin color. Namely: at some point, the university sector decided that intellectual disability was something that should be mitigated, rather than treated as disqualifying one from scholarly life. Conditions such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, speech delay (and so on) were now to be treated as unfair obstacles to a person’s dreams of pursuing an academic career, rather than constituting evidence they were unsuited. And since over-diagnosis of mental health conditions is rife in the sector, and everyone is frightened of being called discriminatory, the predictable upshot was that — at least in some cases — straightforward midwittery came to be treated like an excusable intellectual disability as well.
Lecturers are now routinely expected to make adjustments to their ordinary critical approach as soon as someone has a diagnosis: to ignore spelling mistakes; mentally rearrange sentences without critical comment; try not to mind paragraphs that go on for days, or seem utterly arbitrary in their shape. I speak from experience.
