It doesn't matter that Ireland only has miniscule fragments of native forests left, or that these are mostly in a dying state. When it comes to fixing that, everything takes forever and is piecemeal, if it even happens at all. It's always plenty of talk and written reports, but little or no action.

Drawing created by Paul Davidson c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where he was compelled to live. This is one of a small number of his surviving works & no biographical information is currently known to us
A crayon drawing of a white boy’s head with short brown hair and purple and orange rays emitting from his eyes, he is inside a square structure reminiscent of a window of theatre set with prance curtains, above a rectangle full of blue and green stars with red legs, and on either side are hands with their index fingers pointed

For many, this is simply an accurate reflection of how things work in Ireland. We have a consistent agri policy that favours the most industrialised, richest farmers, but absolutely NOT the majority of farmers, rural communities, nature, the climate, or the wider society that pays for it all.

The fact that @news.rte.ie is still giving it 'hamas-run' this and 'israel has denied' that in an article about musicians taking a stand against zio propaganda and mealy-mouthed both-siderism says it all. Look to the political/media class for empty rhetoric. Look to the artists for action.
Sheeran said that he had "spent this week trying to build bridges, to find a solution and unfortunately was unable to do so".

Israel's bombardment of Gaza has left around 73,500 Palestinians dead and 174,500 wounded since October 2023, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures the United Nations deems reliable.

The bombing of Gaza followed an attack on Israel by Hamas militants on 7 October, 2023 that resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, according to an AFP calculation based on official figures.

Israel has denied all accusations of genocide in Gaza.

The background is a powder blue textured canvas. On the right, a portion of a dark, melancholic painting of a forest with snow on the ground. Black text at the top reads “National Translation Month,” with the WWB logo in black and the Academy of American Poets logo in black and bright blue below this. Remaining black text reads:

RIP Annie Dillard. A bit of "The Writing Life" I keep with me: One of the few things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Lovely to see Ed Sheeran's support acts quitting. I think often liberals dislike solidarity as it shines a light on the utter hollowness of their politics. They do everything they can to shut it down, discredit, or silence it. But always remember that they do this because they recognise its power.

A painting in blues and greens and purples of a female face with one huge blue cyclopean eye, crying tears made of smaller blue eyes, the figure seems to fix the viewer in her gaze and it is reminiscent of Rembrandt's girl with a pearl earring
