ah yes, Jim Power, the economist for hire who writes all the reports claiming greyhound racing is an important part of our economy
ITIC believes that extending the VAT break would support businesses that draw tourists to towns and communities across the country.

Research by economist Jim Power shows the extension would cost the Government €17 million.

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

The Free Press bravely challenging the orthodox belief that film criticism should involve watching the film.
A headline from Bari Weiss’s The Free [sic] Press:

“Hold Your Applause for the New Gaza Documentary

There may yet be hard truths in 'NAZA,' including evidence of Israel's systemic failures. But the reporting around it treats flimsy claims as proof of criminality.”

First line: “i haven't seen the film,”

I actually appreciate Laoise making it this explicit that The Countess is only interested in exactly these culture war issues and otherwise has zero interest in safeguarding women or children
We at
@TheCountessIE
will never allow spurious accusations of racisms or bigotry stop in from calling our policy that places women and children at risk regardless of how in vogue it is or how sacred the protected class it pertains too. It is the birthright of women and children to be safe in this country and we will continue undaunted, to provide policy scrutiny and alternatives when it comes to trans ideology in all sectors of life and open border immigration.

An annoying argument in favour of FPTP is the idea that any PR system breaks the connection between MP and constituency. This argument is exceptionally annoying given that the UK's closest neighbour, Ireland, has a PR system that is arguably too locally focused. www.qmul.ac.uk/mei/policy-h...
Statement that "FPTP ensures that there is just one MP per
constituency. Polling shows this constituency link
to be very popular with British voters."

people on the other place are wetting themsleves with excitement at the latest supposedly thorough database of public spending. €49 a year he's charging for "Every line of public spending in Ireland", but it clearly isn't comprehensive if it doesn't show Mattie McGrath's contracts with Tipp CoCo!
X post by William Kennedy. It reads

I have spent the last few weeks building Public Purse Ireland.

Its aim is simple. List every line item of government expenditure with the supplier, description and the amount, starting with grants and purchase orders.

No fancy charts, no broad economic strokes, but just there in black and white.

The information is out there, scattered and hidden on the web. Public Purse brings it under one roof.Every line of Irish public spending. Yours to use.
One licence unlocks the full dataset, a developer API, and AI assistants that can answer questions about the money in plain English. Support Public Purse while the early price still exists.

€49 VAT included · 12 months

This founding price is limited. Once it goes, it goes — lock it in before the offer ends.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

this is true and well-put but it is not unique to this matter. if the purpose of a system is what it does, one of the main purposes of social media is the mass production of reckless speculation. one of the most powerful pollutants in our informational ecosystem

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

This is a very good point. The ESRI data showed that the sector wasn't in crisis at all yet the government did this on the basis of hearsay and interviews with whining hoteliers. They didn't need to blockade anything, their interests were viewed as automatically paramount.

I would urge people to recall, as we hear the government justify their choices in the coming budget, that long before the fuel protests, this govermment gave a massive and economically unjustifiable VAT cut to hospitality, which cost more than half of what an additional child benefit payment would
