Perhaps most importantly: regularly interrogate the ways you uphold and enforce anti-fatness, rather than brushing it off as the problem of a few bad actors. Most of us are bad actors on this stuff! Proactively seek out feedback & requests from the fat people in your life.

I think maybe, where applicable, the conversation needs to be about holding executives criminally liable. I suspect they understand that language very clearly.

I think this editorial is generally heartening but one aspect of it has been rankling with me, and it is this bit. Corporations are run by people and I don’t think those people do understand money. The opposite. If they get fined or sued, they’ll just hit their shareholders up for it and keep going
responsible. These liability laws are one of the oldest forms of corporate regulation, and an effective one. Liability is a powerful incentive to behave responsibly. It speaks to corporations in a language they understand: Money.

Bethany wore a “Protect The Dolls” t-shirt during rehearsals. The BBC posted it on their socials then quietly deleted and reposted it without showing her from the front. On TV last night they actually blurred the message #Strictly

Happy Pride to that misogynist parrot who helped the girl finally come out to herself.
A parrot in a pet shop sits on a perch glaring at the camera. A sign in s tray if bird seed reads "I bite women, only handle me if you're a man". The person taking the pictures hand is in the frame, her skin clearly strongly pinched by a parrot beak recently.

what incredible beauty there is in just existing for a moment. to sit and breathe and have a pumping heart. to let any goals or expectations fall away. to think 'wow i am here.' life is an unfathomable blessing but in quiet moments of acknowledgment i think we can at least REACH for understanding

A fascinating editorial decision from the BBC, to make the headline a scaremongering “AUTISM AND ADHD ARE BEING OVERDIAGNOSED”, and then, four bullet points later, have the author of the report quoted as essentially saying “nah, that’s bullshit, actually”.
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says report, as author warns of rise in mental ill health
Summary
• An official review in England finds there is a risk of people being over-diagnosed with
ADHD and autism - three key findings from the report
• As well as neurodevelopmental conditions, the review looks at mental ill health, particularly in younger people. Our health correspondent explains the difference
• It was commissioned earlier this year after Wes Streeting, then the health secretary, said there was an "over-diagnosis" of mental health conditions
• Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme earlier, review chair Prof Peter Fonagy said Streeting was "with respect, completely wrong"

That is a disgrace. In fact it's pathetic, and whether you're a trans ally or not, every commissioning editor the New Statesman who had the ability to give people a platform should really be feeling some shame here. They have a gender critical senior staffer though, and she's commented plenty.

ONE trans person a voice. Our country is now out of step with every liberal democracy in the industralised world on trans rights It's an issue that affects employment, health, human rights and more, yet the editors of our main centre-left mag didn't think one trans person deserves a right to speak?

To give one small practical example of what I mean - I was listening to a New Statesman podcast express horror and condemnation of the Zionism is Racism motion (fair enough, I'm also v unhappy). The NS hasn't had one single trans person write about transphobia since FWS last April.

Now it's gone way beyond that - if I use a female toilet in the workplace I risk being drawn into a public facing employment tribunal, where I'll be hounded by the press have people on the BBC payroll call me a rapist, and have a billionaire lawsuit funded against me that I will lose

Like it's also not just even transphobia being legitimised - it's direct discrimination, a breach of trans people's human rights being the law of the land. An entire group of people's who's very ability to function in society removed

I've talked about this before, but it is very hard when you see how moral red lines are drawn, and the complete gutting of trans people's civil rights is entirely within an accepted norm and barely remarked upon even by many progressives.

Large magazine, "My kind of town - nostalgic reflections of bygone Sheffield". An old photo of workmen overlooking the town hall. Flat caps for safety! says the legend, remember before all this health and safety nonsense eh? Along the bottom runs a list of subjects covered in this issue - boy scout blitz hero, city on film, chuck Berry's Sheffield links...And Binmen!
